The screenplay was written, for the most part, while I was away for my first year of college. Daniel Tockman was growing nearer to his last days of high school and closer to leaving for college. I suppose this is why he wrote a script based on this scenario. Normal Nights began filming while I was away. The scenes featuring Mike Silber and Tara Sokolow were shot right before the summer of 2000. When I got home, I joined the crew, helping out in the rest of the shoots. Like usual, many long nights shooting until 2 or 3AM were spent. I will refrain from making any bad jokes about these being "normal nights." Tockman and I finished shooting the film early in the summer. We figured we had all summer to edit the movie and then start shooting something else. We couldn't have been more wrong. We ended up using pretty much every free moment of our lives editing this 12 minute movie, and in the end, I think it was all worth it.
