After hearing about whats in store for the Blu Ray versions of Pirates, I'm starting to get more inclined to just get a PS3 so I can have access to Disney Blu Ray. Anyone else here doing the same? I'm just having a hard time investing in another format. I think I made a mistake getting the HD-DVD player for the 360, so I havent bought too many HD DVDs.

I am not buying either until one wins or the dual players are common and cheap.

Totally on the same boat here. After hearing all the amazing features, and 1080p, I was beginning to think getting a PS3 won't be a bad idea. As for HD-DVD, I don't know about that format. I mean blu=ray disks just look cooler. Smile

Even with my thoughts of buying a PS3, I still need an HDtv first of all. So until I actually get an HDtv, there's really no point in getting a PS3; at least for me.

Yeah, cheap is the key word. It's just too expensive to be investing in two formats with neither guaranteed to succeed. Another point is that after buying a few HD DVDs, they look awesome but the big jump from DVD that the jump from VHS to DVD was in terms of quality. Once you saw DVD, there was no going back to VHS. With HD-DVD, especially films that werent filmed in HD to begin with, its not so painful to have to go back and watch a movie in DVD quality.

I hear ya. Although I havn't watched a movie in HD. I have gone to my uncle's house to watch NFL Football on HD. Let's just say I cry everytime I watch it at home now knowing everything I'm missing. It's like a totally different feeling. You can actually make out the faces of fans in each seat, it was incredible.

I'm confused with all of this. What one is the leading one so far?

Yeah, you definitely need a HDTV. Mine's not 1080p though which is ok. With the slow sales of PS3, a price cut will be inevitible by the end of the year. It just doesnt have anything going for it right now. People are leary about investing in Blu Ray, and all the good games are on 360 and Wii.

I think what could be the breaking point for me is the day Pixar movies come out on Blu Ray. Incredibles and Nemo in high def.... Jaw Drop

Hopefully by the time those start coming out, the whole format war will have a more clear winner.

I heard Sony saying in an interview that a slimmer PS3 would be coming out in the future. Don't know how far in the future, but getting a HDtv is my first goal anyways. I can see the prices for PS3 going down for sure.

Well after you get a HDTV, get a 360 which has movies available for download in high definition. Prices are about the same as a blockbuster. I havent tried it myself, but there's a good selection. I havent seen Superman yet and its got mixed reviews, so I'm going to download that whenever I get around to it instead of wasting $25 on the hd-dvd.

I bought the PS3 primarily because of the Blu Ray. I know Sony has lost all of it's format wars but I think because of all the Major studios supporting Blu Ray especially Disney, this format will emerge as the winner. The only Disney movie I have purchased on Blu Ray is Pearl Harbor. First of all I love the fact I do not have to get up and insert another disc (like the DVD version) But the audio and video make it seam like my living room is in the middle of the harbor getting bombed away! I cannot wait until Pirates and National Treasure come out. As far as I can tell only Universal movies are not availbale on Blu Ray.

I'm with Ricky. I won't start investing until a winner is declared. Also, it doesn't really make sense for me to get Blueray/HD-DVD, because we don't have an HDTV. I am torn though. I am rooting for HD-DVD for a number of reasons, but Disney has gone full tilt on Blueray. Neutral
