     Story Treatment

Our story begins as humans first enter the world of monsters… Monsters, Incorporated, that is. It is a new era for Monsters, Inc.; providing power to all of Monstropolis no longer requires the screams of human children. Thanks to the new President and CEO, James P. Sullivan, and Monster Supervisor, Mike Wazowski, Monsters, Inc. has changed its ways. Children should no longer be frightened by the sight of big, hairy monsters in their rooms, but should rather be entertained.

However, since Monsters, Inc. has had such a long history of scaring children night after night, many humans have had difficulty believing that scaring is no longer their policy. Thus, for the first time ever, humans are being allowed into Monstropolis to prove that there is nothing to fear. James P. Sullivan has decided to establish a remote office in the human world where the doors to Monsters, Inc. will be open to all. The Open House has begun today and the humans are lining up to see what’s inside.

Once inside the remote office, humans travel to Monstropolis via the all-new, revolutionary Monsters, Inc. Automated Tour Guide™. Once aboard, and safely buckled in, the humans are instantly transported to the Laugh Floor, where the monster magic takes place. There, the humans may catch a glimpse at the friendly monsters hard at work, preparing each door on the floor for another day on the job.

Unfortunately for Monsters, Inc., there are still some monsters who refuse to believe that laughter is truly better than fear. One particularly stubborn monster is Harold, a burnt-orange monster with red, glaring eyes and sharp pointed teeth. Harold has difficulty doing anything but scaring children and has the lowest Laugh Rating in the company. With this in mind, Harold would like nothing more than to interfere with Sulley’s plans to educate humans.

As the Automated Tour Guide heads down the Laugh Floor, Harold steps in its path, showing the humans how scary monsters really can be. However, Mike Wazowski is there supervising and quickly tells Harold to put away his teeth and get away from the humans, as they are now guests of Monsters, Inc. Harold isn’t pleased with the whole idea, but backs down for now. The tour moves on to Sulley’s office.

Sulley introduces himself in person and gives the humans further reassurance that monsters like him are not out to scare any longer. He then invites the humans to join him through a special door in his office. The door leads to a little, human girl’s room. The humans are introduced to Boo, the little girl that helped make Monsters, Inc. change its ways. After a brief meeting, they are sent back through the doorway to finish their tour of the facility. The Automated Tour Guide begins to turn around to take them back through the door. Boo, wanting to join in on the fun, quickly runs past the vehicle. Harold, who had been scheming all along, quickly snatches her away from the door and dashes off.

The humans advance through the door behind him, but rather than being back in Sulley’s office, they end up in the lobby of Monsters, Inc. Immediately, the door to Boo’s room shuts and locks, preventing Sulley from escaping.

Sulley thinks quickly and takes control of the Automated Tour Guide vehicle, sending the humans on a chase to catch Harold. The chase sends the humans all over the Monsters, Inc. facility. They go through the cafeteria, past Roz’s window, and down a stretch of hallways, ultimately ending up in the heart of the factory, the Door Repository. The humans are then sent on a high-flying ride along the door tracks, following Harold’s every movement.

They finally catch him when Mike finds Sulley an alternate doorway back to the factory. Boo is saved from the clutches of Harold as Sulley emerges next to him, grabbing him immediately. Mike, Boo, and Sulley reunite and all wave goodbye to the humans, apologizing for the mishap, assuring them that monsters are really not scary creatures. The humans pass through one final doorway to leave Monstropolis and return to their own world.
