365 Adventures in 2011: Day 239 – Thundercats unpacked

It took me a few weeks, but I finally moved a bunch of things around on my office shelves to make room for my new Thundercats toys. A couple are new releases based on the old series (including the Comic-Con exclusive Lion-O) and the rest are from the fantastic new series that I look forward to watching every Friday. These new toys from Bandai are some of the best action figures I’ve seen in a long time. They look just like the characters, they’re highly articulated with well-hidden articulation points, they come with exactly the right accessories, they hold their poses well, and they stand up easily. Many of the figures have interactive features, courtesy of “ThunderLynx” technology – basically a magnet inside each figure that activates movements and sometimes lights/sounds. They’ve really done a great job with all of these figures.

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 224 – Thundercats

I finally received my first batch of toys from the new Thundercats show. The show is GREAT and the toys are pretty decent too. Though when I ordered this group of items, I didn’t realize that the “basic” Sworn of Omens was only 12″ long when fully extended. It’s more like a Dagger of Omens. Fortunately the “deluxe” version will be here soon (and is already in stores). Unfortunately, I haven’t read about any plans for a “deluxe” version of the Claw Shield, which is too small to really do anything with, certainly too small to wear – even for a kid. I don’t quite understand that. But anyone who was a fan of the original Thundercats series will love this new one. Watch it ASAP.

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 103 – Yep, more Tron Legacy toys

Just when I thought I was done buying Tron: Legacy stuff, I find out that Woot was offering a great deal on the “ultimate” action figure versions of Sam Flynn and Clu, only $10 each. I couldn’t pass it up, as they were two of the very few Tron: Legacy toys I didn’t have. And now I do:

As a surprise bonus, the identity discs that come with these figures are metal, not plastic, so they make great collectibles on their own.

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 5 – (Un)healthy Tron Legacy obsession

I think I’m one step short of becoming the Tron Guy. Okay, maybe it’s not that bad, but I am rapidly forming an obsession with all things Tron Legacy:

Today I framed my new Tron Legacy double-sided one-sheet poster you see here. Also pictured is my shelf of Tron Legacy toys that includes:
4 identity discs (3 deluxe light-up, 1 throwable)
2 disc launchers
4 deluxe action figures (2 of which talk)
8 smaller action figures (3 are sitting in vehicles)
2 deluxe Light Cycles
1 deluxe Light Runner
1 Recognizer carrying case filled with several die-cast vehicles
and a set of battery-powered LED lights to illuminate it all.

Not pictured is my collection of Tron Legacy trading pins. Also not pictured are my Tron Legacy Nintendo DS game, my 2 Tron Legacy books, my Tron Legacy soundtrack, or my Tron Legacy hoodie and T-shirt.

Yeah, Tron Guy here I come.

Buyer Beware: Don’t buy from CCG Armory

I know I haven’t posted here in several weeks and I do hope to resume regular posts in 2010. Maybe that will be my New Year’s resolution (though I made a resolution several years ago to never make resolutions and I’ve been holding to it pretty well). But here’s a quick Christmas-related post that needs to be said…

NEVER buy from an online company called CCG Armory.

I don’t want to link to their site here, as they’re not worth linking to, but the company sells action figures, toys, and other collectibles – items that always fill our Christmas tree.

Michelle (my wife) ordered 13 items for me from them that I wanted for Christmas. She placed the order on Dec. 2, leaving plenty of time for the company to either ship the purchased items or let her know that they weren’t going to be able to fulfill her order.

Days went buy with no communication whatsoever. Michelle had tried to email and call them with no luck. Finally they responded and said they would be able to get everything to her by Christmas, so she was happy and waited… and waited… and waited. Day after day she watched our mailbox to see if the big package arrived.

Finally, Christmas came and went and I ended up short 13 presents, which I wasn’t upset about but Michelle was very disappointed. Her phone calls to CCG Armory were *never* answered and email responses only came once a week (if that).

Today, the day after Christmas, a package finally arrived from them and it only contained 4 of the 13 items she ordered. They never told her that they wouldn’t be shipping the rest. On top of that, she had been promised free shipping by ordering $150 worth of stuff, but instead was charged $8.40 for shipping since they only sent 4 items instead of all 13. Again, no communication from them letting her know that this was going to happen.

All in all, buying from CCG Armory is like playing the lottery, but with worse odds. Do not buy from them unless you want to have a painful shopping experience. It’s merchants like this that give online shopping a bad name.
