365 Adventures in 2011: Day 365 – The Final Adventure
A second story balcony near our house gave me and Michelle our final adventure for the year. We watched the Magic Kingdom’s New Year’s Eve fireworks show from around 15 minutes away from the park, staying away from the crazy crowds and instead enjoying them completely by ourselves. From that vantage point, we not only saw that show, but at least 10 other small local displays from people shooting off fireworks in their yards. It was a great way to end the year and to conclude these 365 Adventures in 2011.
Happy New Year!
And a video of the finale too:

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 322 – Christmas in November
Tonight I attended the last Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party before Thanksgiving, just in time to celebrate Christmas in advance of eating the big turkey dinner. I’m still not totally feeling the Christmas spirit yet, though tonight’s event helped get the ball rolling a bit faster for me. I’m sure once Thanksgiving comes and goes, I’ll be ready to dive headfirst into all the red and green. But in the meantime, I enjoyed seeing Scrooge in the parade, the Christmas fireworks, and the included cookies and apple juice. It wasn’t cold enough to drink any hot chocolate, but at least it wasn’t hot out either. I don’t think we’ll be having a cool Christmas this year though. Summer seems to be here year-round in Florida.

I was quite excited to hear that the Enchanted Tiki Room had reopened today, a day earlier than announced. It’s been far too long since this classic version of the attraction has existed in Florida. The obnoxious “Under New Management” version with Iago and Zazu long overstayed its welcome. And now that one’s gone, replaced by Tiki Room goodness once again. The songs may be a bit shorter and it may be lacking a fountain, but it’s still good. And I’ll go back frequently.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 132 – Great Disney Scavenger Hunt, Day 1
I am exhausted. Today was day 1 of the Great Disney Scavenger Hunt, put on by the Disney D23 fan club. We started the Hunt in good spirits shortly after 10am at Epcot. We had 95 questions of varying degrees of difficulty to answer by speed walking through the entire park, riding a handful of rides. Four hours later, we turned in our completed question book and were completely wiped out… but feeling accomplished. Epcot is huge but we did well.
After a break, it was time for our second park of the day where we spent 3 more hours at the Magic Kingdom. After that, we were even more wiped out. We didn’t do quite as well at Magic Kingdom, but still NEARLY finished all the questions (and took educated guesses on the rest).
In the end, I think we got around 98% of all the questions right, which is pretty darn good. I hope we win the grand prize of a Disney Cruise, but I have a feeling a small handful of teams will do better than us and get ALL the questions right. We’ll find out tomorrow night after we continue the Hunt at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Oh and our team is the Junior Woodchucks, named after the Boy Scouts-style group that Huey, Dewey, and Louie belong to (with honorary Junior Woodchuck Webbigail). Our team was myself (Huey), my wife Michelle (Webbigail), and our friends Kenny (Dewey) and Kurt (Louie). We dressed the part.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 91 – Mickey Mouse’s new house
After finishing up work, I visited Mickey Mouse in his new meet-and-greet home, Town Square Theater. The all-new area took over for the former Exposition Hall at the Magic Kingdom. The photo op takes place in Mickey’s dressing room “backstage” at the theater. It’s a fun space filled with plenty of Disney details, though not nearly enough time is given to actually see them all. I only had a few fleeting moments with the Mouse.
