Want to be on Nickelodeon’s Brain Surge? Auditions begin January 18

Ever since I posted about Nickelodeon’s excellent game show Brain Surge, I’ve been receiving daily e-mails from hopeful young kids wanting to have a chance to be on the show. Yes, despite the fact I have absolutely nothing to do with the show, I’ve been getting e-mails about it every day.

Well now’s your chance to audition to be on Brain Surge. You can either audition in person in Los Angeles or submit a “virtual audition” in the form of a video online.

Here’s the important part: Do not contact me about these auditions. To try to be on the show, click here and follow the instructions.

Again, CLICK HERE to audition for Brain Surge. DO NOT contact me. I have absolutely nothing to do with getting you on the show.

You must be between the ages of 11-14 to audition. Tapings will be held in Los Angeles from mid-March to mid-April and some will take place on school days.

Good luck!

‘Brain Surge’ brings game show Gak back to Nickelodeon

My previous post on the new Nickelodeon game show “Brain Surge” has become so popular now that the show is on the air that I thought a follow-up was in order.

“BrainSurge” premiered yesterday on Nickelodeon and it features a perfect combination of humor, mental stimulation, and plenty of slime.  Fans of old Nick game shows like “Double Dare” and “Get the Picture” will definitely enjoy this show’s style, facing off a group of kids against each other in a battle of memory. Pictures, numbers, and stories are served up and contestants are forced to memorize tiny details in short spans of time in order to win points. The winner ultimately gets to play a path memorization game in order to win the grand prizes and a chance to be slimed.

But even those who don’t make past the first two rounds don’t walk away empty-handed. They all leave with great Nick parting gifts (including a bucket of slime, which you can purchase here) and a slide down the “Brain Drain” covered in some sort of white foamy goo that looks like it’s straight out of a slopsticle course on “Double Dare.”

Since the show premiered, I’ve had an influx of e-mails from kids wanting to become contestants. The bad news is that the first season of 40 episodes has already finished taping and auditions are not currently taking place. The good news is that you can get on a list for future auditions by sending an e-mail to nickcontestants@gmail.com. You can also become a fan of the show and stay up to date on audition information via Facebook here.

According to Patti Stone, contestant supervisor for ”BrainSurge,” the show is based off of a Japanese game show called “Brain Survivor” but adapted for children. The pilot was shot in Sept. 2007 and has finally made it to television two years later.

Personally, Between “BrainSurge” and last year’s “My Family’s Got GUTS,” I’m extremely excited that game shows have made their way back to the Nickelodeon programming schedule. Hopefully someone can be talked into resurrecting “Double Dare” for a third time.

Don’t worry if you mess up, though.  There’s still tons of time.

Feel free to post how you did each day.  This will be brought to the top of the page every day until July 16th at 7:00PM ET.  Good luck.  I want to see one of you in the Hot Seat!

Bob Barker Returns to ‘The Price is Right’ For One Episode

From yahoo.com:

Bob Barker returned to “The Price Is Right” — and this time he was the showcase.

After nearly two years in retirement, the 85-year-old former game show host was invited to come on down to “The Price Is Right” to promote his upcoming memoir, “Priceless Memories,” due out April 6.

Barker on Wednesday once again stood on the set where he had worked for 35 years. As he walked the halls of the studio, old co-workers greeted Barker with broad smiles, seemingly as happy to have him back as he was to be there.

Dressed in a black suit with a hot pink shirt and matching tie, the silver-haired host appeared alongside successor Drew Carey near the finale of the show, which airs April 16, to present two prize showcases that were somewhat stretched to promote Barker’s memoir.

One showcase, for example, featured a computer to order the book, a trip to New York City to buy a bundle of the books from the publisher, and a truck to haul them all back in.
“That general idea was in their script, but I shamelessly overacted on a lot of it,” Barker said, laughing mischievously in his dressing room after the show.

All 300 members of the show’s live studio audience also received a copy of the tome.
Most days, Barker said his retirement has been filled with various projects helping animals. He also keeps in shape by exercising with light weights and an elliptical machine.
“I have remarked that I better go back and start doing the show again to get a little rest,” Barker said.

But despite his busy lifestyle, the veteran performer said he misses the excitement of “The Price is Right.”

“I could never have done this show if I hadn’t enjoyed it, and one of the things I enjoyed was the excitement with the audience, the fun with the audience, the responses of the audience,” Barker said. “I’d done audience participation my entire adult life.”

Barker taped his last regular episode — his 6,586th — of the popular CBS game show in June 2007, retiring after five decades on national television.

Always the animal lover, Barker spends his free time with his dog, Jesse, and two rabbits, Mr. Rabbit and Honey Bunny. Proceeds from Barker’s book will go to the DJ&T Foundation, which he founded in 1994 to subsidize the cost of spaying and neutering animals.

Asked at the end of the interview if there was anything else he’d like to add, Barker chuckled and said, just as he had for 35 years on network television: “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.”

I was fortunate enough to attend a taping of The Price is Right a couple of weeks before Bob Barker’s 80th birthday. Having watched the show since I was very young, finally seeing it all in person was something I will never forget. Drew Carey hasn’t been able to capture the same magic that Barker did for so many years and as much as I love The Price is Right, I’ve given up watching… but I’ll tune in on April 16 to see Bob again.

Nickelodeon Starts Production on New Kids Game Show “Brain Surge”

UPDATE #3:You can audition for Brain Surge beginning on January 18, 2010. Find out how here.

UPDATE #2:I have disabled comments on this post because it appears that no one is understanding that I have no connection to the show and cannot help you with the audition process.

UPDATE: This web site is not affiliated with Nickelodeon nor do we have anything to do with casting for Brain Surge. You can find information on auditions for future seasons of BrainSurge by clicking here.

Here’s some slightly old news that I’m just picking up on. It’s fantastic news for anyone who grew up watching Nickelodeon’s many original game shows like Double Dare, Get the Picture, and Legends of the Hidden Temple.

From buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com:

Nickelodeon, the kids cable network, is beginning production of a new game show called BrainSurge.  It’s their first all-new game show in a long time, isn’t it?  I guess the success of My Family’s Got GUTS made them think of doing more cheap, popular programming.  Not a ton is known about the show right now beyond that it begins taping in February in Hollywood, and only kids between the ages 8 and 14 are allowed in the audience.  Parents and other non-young people will be put in a special room to watch the show.

They’ve been casting the show for a bit and  finally realized a little bit of information.  It’s a game of memory and concentration, which almost sounds a bit like the old 90s kids game show Get the Picture.  Contestants from the ages 11 to 14 have a chance to win up to $3,000 in prizes if they make it on, which is pretty good for people that age.  Losers get sent down the “Brain Drain” to get slimed.

I saw a taping of My Family’s Got GUTS at Universal Orlando a few months ago and really enjoyed it. While GUTS was never one of my favorite Nickelodeon game shows, it was still a fun trip down memory lane. I hope BrainSurge offers the same kind of excitement.

Tapings are currently scheduled for February 16 and 17 in Hollywood CA. Visit On Camera Audiences for more information on how to attend and be sure to comment here if you do!

UPDATE:Brain Surge premieres on Nickelodeon on Sept. 28, 2009 at 4:30 p.m.

UPDATE #2:Non-winning contestants on BrainSurge receive a Bucket of Slime as a parting gift. You can buy your own Bucket of Slime here:
