365 Adventures in 2011: Day 259 – A new Monte Cristo winner
At tonight’s Food Truck Bazaar in the Fashion Square Mall parking lot, I tasted something I never thought I would: a Monte Cristo sandwich that is quite possibly better than the one at Disneyland. For years I’ve been chowing down on the Monte Cristos in the Blue Bayou and more recently Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square, happily enjoying its fried, powdered sugar-topped goodness. But I didn’t have a chance to get one last time I was at Disneyland, so when I spotted the tasty sandwich on the Wicked ‘Wiches food truck menu, I had to give it a shot. A few minutes and only $6 later, I was holding a basket with a huge Monte Cristo that tasted fantastic. And it’s a different flavor than Disneyland’s too.
Like any Monte Cristo, this has turkey, ham, and cheese (though I had them hold the ham, as I always do). But this one also had mustard and a bit of cranberry inside, with a cranberry sauce dip. The mustard had some punch, but wasn’t spicy. It just tasted fresh and strong. It was all accompanied by freshly cooked potato chips with a sweet honey drizzle. All in all, an incredible dinner – for only $6! At Disneyland, the same meal would cost $20+ and take 15+ minutes to arrive. My only complaint is that the Monte Cristo I had today was quite a bit greasier than the one at Disneyland, leaving my hands covered in oil. My stomach wasn’t thrilled with that part afterward, but it was worth it for the excellent flavor.
The truck is Tampa-based but comes over to Orlando often, so don’t miss it!
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 155 – Mickey’s Soundsational Parade is sensational
Disneyland’s new daytime parade, Mickey’s Soundsational Parade, is wonderful! I enjoyed seeing it for the first time on Thursday (from high atop a media riser) and again today from Fantasyland. Each float has so many details that it would take many views to catch them all. And the live drummers are great. After watching today, we followed the parade for a while through the Fantasyland streets and I couldn’t resist getting this great photo with the parade and the Matterhorn behind me.
TweetVideo: Richard Sherman performs “Feed the Birds” on Main Street at Disneyland at window ceremony
Today the songwriting Sherman Brothers received a window on Main Street USA at Disneyland in their honor. The window reads “Two Brothers Tunemakers.”
We’ll have more coverage of the window unveiling ceremony, including video, photos, and an interview later today/tomorrow, but here’s a semi-live look at Richard Sherman singing “Feed the Birds” from Mary Poppins on Main Street as part of the ceremony (sent via iPhone):

TweetDisney announces new “Destination D” event at Disneyland
Today at the Disney Shareholders meeting, it was announced that there would be no Disney D23 Expo in 2010. However, D23 will not let fans expecting an event down as a smaller, two-day event will be held at Disneyland in September.
The new event is called “Destination D” and it will be held exclusively for D23 Members on Sept. 24-25, 2010 at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.
“Destination D” will alternate annually with the D23 Expo.
The first event, called “DESTINATION D: Disneyland ’55″ will take D23 Members on a journey through the design, creation, debut and magical history of the world’s first Disney theme park. The first DESTINATION D will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel.
DESTINATION D: Disneyland ’55 will offer two full days of special presentations, panels, screenings and guest speakers that let fans meet and talk with key figures in Disneyland’s history. Future DESTINATION D events will explore other important aspects of Disney’s creative legacy.
“We’re very excited to also be creating an entirely new event with DESTINATION D, which will bring Disney’s fascinating history to D23 Members in ways no other Disney fan can experience,” said Steven Clark, head of D23. “There’s nowhere on earth quite as special as Disneyland, and we want fans to see it as they never have before.”
The first “Destination D” event will include:
· “Disneyland: The Way We Were” – Disney’s Chief Archivist Dave Smith will look back at highlights from Disneyland history;
· “Disney Undiscovered” – An exploration of never-built projects and attractions developed for Disneyland;
· “23 on 55” – The Walt Disney Archives celebrates Disneyland’s 55th anniversary;
· “Weird Disney” – A showcase for some of the quirky, little-known facts, places, people and ideas that even the most avid fan might not know.
More details on the programming and events planned for DESTINATION D: Disneyland ’55 – as well as details about the 2011 D23 EXPO – will be available soon at www.disney.com/D23. Tickets will go on sale early this summer.
