Best new toys and collectibles at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con

Judging from the amount of toys showcased at Comic-Con, if I attended, I would probably spent most of my time staring at them wishing the release dates were sooner than later. Of course, that’s exactly what I’m doing here at home, so I suppose there’s really no difference. Anyway, here are my favorite toys, sculptures, and other collectibles that I’ve found photos of:

Ghostbusters from Mattel

I’m extremely excited to finally get my hands on some official Ghostbusters action figures. Egon comes out in just a couple of weeks followed by the rest over time. There’s even a figure of movie “villain” Walter Peck coming out, complete with containment unit accessory. It appears that the figures were guarded at Comic-Con by some Ghostbusters booth babes.

Pictures from toynewssi.com and mwctoys.com – Visit both sites to see a ton of more Ghostbusters figure photos.

“Dark Knight” Not Flying In China

From darkhorizons.com:

Despite its global success, Warner Brothers has opted not to release Batman epic “The Dark Knight” in China reports the AFP.

In an official statement on Christmas Eve, the studio said that “based on a number of pre-release conditions that are being attached to ‘The Dark Knight’ as well as cultural sensitivities to some elements of the film, we have opted to forego a theatrical release of the film in China.”

Only a certain number of Hollywood films make it into wide theatrical release in China every year and in recent years other high-profile projects like “Memoirs of a Geisha” and “Brokeback Mountain” also failed to make it past censors.

In this case many are quite reasonably assuming the ban relates to part of the film’s plot which involves Batman illegally kidnapping a Chinese money-laundering fugitive from a Hong Kong skyscraper. There’s also a not particularly flattering remark about the quality of Chinese gun manufacturing.
