365 Adventures in 2011: Day 286 – Miniland
Today was the official grand opening of LEGOLAND Florida and easily the best part of the park is Miniland, where cities around the United States (and even a trip into history featuring pirates) are created in miniature using thousands upon thousands of LEGO bricks. The surprisingly large area is packed with fun vignettes featuring little LEGO people going about their LEGO lives amidst the LEGO cityscapes.
I’ll be posting a ton of photos from this area soon, but here’s me standing in the middle of it, with Washington DC directly behind me and Las Vegas behind that.

I enjoyed my first day at a LEGO theme park with today’s media preview of the new LEGOLAND Florida in Winter Haven. The park has a lot more to see than I had anticipated, so even after being there for 7 hours, I still didn’t see everything – and I’m going back tomorrow for the grand opening day! Today was a good chance to experience the park with very light crowds but tomorrow they’re expecting around 15,000 people… probably 15 times what was there today. Should be interesting!
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 284 – Lady Luck comes out to play
Changes are afoot at Halloween Horror Nights. They decided to bring Lady Luck out of her scare zone tonight, offering a new photo op near the front of the park. And judging from the smiles on everyone’s faces while posing with her and the roulette wheel of death, it’s a success. I was told it was only a test for tonight, but I have a feeling she’ll stay out there for the rest of the event in the coming weeks. The photo op really helps tie the commercials and promotional materials in with the event itself, instead of tucking her away in a dark alley.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 283 – Night flight light
An Orange County Sheriffs Office helicopter circled an area near my house tonight for quite a while with the search light fixated on something or someone. And, of course, I grabbed my camera. Despite it being quite dark out, I managed to snag some pretty decent shots of the pursuit in action before the helicopter sped away. This particular aircraft was N407KB, according to the giant letters and numbers written on the side. I hope they caught whoever they were searching for… and no, it wasn’t me.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 282 – Zombie meets kitty
Yes, today I bought yet another zombie. This one was 25% off at Party City so I couldn’t resist. (And I may have bought a couple of “melting” skeleton ghouls too…) But the best part was after I assembled the zombie when our cat decided to be curious and sniff the zombie’s cloak, all the way around the bottom. She has no fear of the undead.
