Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

From wikipedia.org:

275px-starwarstheforceunleashed1.jpg

The game will be using “Digital Molecular Matter” developed by Pixelux Entertainment for dynamically destructible objects, Havok for rigid body physics, a graphics engine developed by LucasArts in conjunction with ILM and Euphoria developed by NaturalMotion specifically for the game.

The game will take place sometime after the rise of the Galactic Empire, and allow players to control Force-users. Motion images seen to date highlight the engines use of Pixeluxs Digital Molecular Matter, showing Force-users using telekinesis and Force lightning.

The game takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The player assumes the role of “Darth Vaders secret apprentice”. The player is sent across the galaxy to destroy the remaining Jedi. Set in the dark times between Episodes III and IV, the story is both a continuation of the prequel trilogy - exploring the aftermath of Order 66 and focusing on the continued evolution of Darth Vader - and a direct bridge to the Classic trilogy.

I wonder if Vader’s apprentice was Tarkin — remember when Tarkin is accused of “holding Vader’s leash”? Perhaps that wasn’t really the way  it was at all and Tarkin’s rise was controlled behind the scenes by Vader. Just a thought….Dr. Disney

Disney may have eye on Clone Wars

From tvsquad.com:

sratssd.gif

Citing information from “animation insiders,” Animation Magazine is reporting that Disney may have its sights set on securing broadcast rights to Clone Wars, the CGI-animated cartoon series based on George Lucas’ Star Wars universe (the series would take place between episodes Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith). The series’ debut has been set at fall 2008 for some time now, but no official announcement has been made as to which network or cable station would air the series. Rumor has it that both FOX and HBO would also like to broadcast the series.

If the Disney rumors turn out to be true, Clone Wars wouldn’t be the only project between Disney and Lucasfilm. The two entities have already worked together on the Star Tours ride, with a revamped version (Star Tours 2.0) launching soon.

New Sims games available for iPod

simpool.jpg

From playlistmag.com:

Following the recent release of The Sims Bowling for iPod, EA has followed up with The Sims Pool, a new $4.99 premium game available for purchase and download from the iTunes Store.

The game makes use of EA’s popular The Sims game franchise; you can customize your player, then select a game mode such as 9-ball or 8-ball, or trick shot mode. The iPod’s Click Wheel lets you set cue ball position, angle and spin, adjust power and shoot.

I’d love to play these new games, but since I traded in my iPod for an iPhone, I have nothing to play them on any more. Come on Apple, make the iPhone able to play iPod games.

Wii outselling PlayStation 3 ’six to one’

7-5-07-moneywii.jpg

From engadget.com

Considering that some retail locales in America are still having trouble keeping a fresh supply of Wii consoles in stock (whilst the PlayStation 3 units tend collect thin layers of dust), it’s no surprise to see such dramatic sales figures surface. Sure enough, Enterbrain’s latest report demonstrates that Nintendo’s darling moved into 270,974 new households in June, while only 41,628 PS3s were sold in the same timeframe; just to compare, the even older Xbox 360 was able to sell 17,616 units. That brings the overall sales figures to date for Nintendo to nearly 2.76 million, while Sony has yet to break the magical one million in units sold. But don’t count Sony out just yet — it’s coming back, remember?

I knew this would happen. No one can afford a PS3. But Nintendo is really making it hard, because there are huge demands for the Wii and they are no where to be found. I still can’t find one.

Elite creator crafts theme park sequel

From digitalspy.co.uk:

main1.jpg

Famed for his groundbreaking 1980s epic Elite, David Braben and his development firm Frontier have revealed they are working on a follow-up to the best-selling Thrillville.

The new game, entitled Thrillville: Off the Rails, is a theme park resource management title that will boast a larger number of roller coasters and attractions as well as offering new levels of interaction with the public.

According to Frontier, the game will include: “20 death-defying rides so outrageous, they inspire the same word from every park visitor who sees them: WHOA. Players build these incredible WHOA Coasters to leap from one track to another, launch through the air like cannonballs, blast through burning rings of fire and more.

Nintendo to License iPhone Games.

From looprumors.com:

Nintendo has begun working with Apple on licensing games exclusively for the iPhone, according to NoHeat.

These games will reportedly be released a few months after the iPhone’s launch and sell for $29.00 through the iTunes store.

According to the report, Nintendo’s biggest concern in the affair is the fact that the iPhone utilizes a touch-screen user interface rather than buttons, a method Nintendo is much more accustomed to.

This venture would be Nintendo’s first in the mobile phone industry as it sees this growing market as a threat.

Steve Jobs said yesterday that the iPhone will feature up to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback, or 24 hours of audio playback.
