365 Adventures in 2011: Day 220 – Catherine the video game
Just before going to bed I played the XBox 360 demo for a bizarre new game called “Catherine”. The description in the demo download area made it sound unique and it certainly is. The game follows an indecisive 32-year-old male lead character through his relationship troubles and bad dreams, with a mixture of Japanese anime-style animations, cel-shaded graphics, and 3D action-adventure platforming. It seems the entire point of the game is to decide whether love can exist without pain, as it asks on the game’s web site. It’s a strange premise for a video game and yet I found myself intrigued by it. I don’t know that I’ll ever bother to play the full version, but the demo is certainly worth trying just for the sheer “huh?!” factor.
And yeah, today’s photo is just a game screenshot from their website. Didn’t feel like taking another photo of the TV.

I’ve been playing the new Mortal Kombat for XBox 360 and loving it. The video game series took a turn for the worse, producing quite a few bland games. But this one really brings it all back to the glory days, with some great new enhancements. Story mode is easily the best part, not only offering a fun look at familiar characters but also forcing me to play as some that I normally skip – and get good at them to advance. (And this picture is the game in the dark while I watched a cutscene.)

We hit up 1/2 price Wednesday at Dave and Buster’s tonight until around 12:30am. It was crowded, but not overly packed, and a whole lot of fun. After playing some games and racking up a few thousand tickets, it was time to head out. Parking is still difficult there, with far less spaces than there are people with cars, but it’s worth the circling to spend a couple hours inside. Fun times!
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 204 – Costume at Comic-Con
I can now say I have worn a costume to the San Diego Comic-Con. I was Mario as a Ghostbuster, fighting a Boo. I already owned a Ghostbusters “costume” T-shirt so I wore that along with tan pants, a Mario hat and mustache I picked up at Party City recently, and a Ghostbusters proton pack backpack with detachable proton gun pouch. To finish it off, I used an old green light saber as the proton stream and stuck the cardboard Boo I made earlier this week onto the end. I think it turned out pretty well, considering the time and money I spent on it.
But I do have more respect for convention goers who wear elaborate costumes all day. The mustache and hat were annoying me after only a few minutes of wearing them and I got sick of carrying around the proton gun setup very quickly. Though I only walked around the convention hall for maybe 15-20 minutes wearing the costume, I’m still happy that I did it. It’s one of those things that I can check off my life “to do” list. And a couple people laughed at the costume idea as well, which was great.
