Wii outselling PlayStation 3 ‘six to one’

7-5-07-moneywii.jpg

From engadget.com

Considering that some retail locales in America are still having trouble keeping a fresh supply of Wii consoles in stock (whilst the PlayStation 3 units tend collect thin layers of dust), it’s no surprise to see such dramatic sales figures surface. Sure enough, Enterbrain’s latest report demonstrates that Nintendo’s darling moved into 270,974 new households in June, while only 41,628 PS3s were sold in the same timeframe; just to compare, the even older Xbox 360 was able to sell 17,616 units. That brings the overall sales figures to date for Nintendo to nearly 2.76 million, while Sony has yet to break the magical one million in units sold. But don’t count Sony out just yet — it’s coming back, remember?

I knew this would happen. No one can afford a PS3. But Nintendo is really making it hard, because there are huge demands for the Wii and they are no where to be found. I still can’t find one.

Famed for his groundbreaking 1980s epic Elite, David Braben and his development firm Frontier have revealed they are working on a follow-up to the best-selling Thrillville.

The new game, entitled Thrillville: Off the Rails, is a theme park resource management title that will boast a larger number of roller coasters and attractions as well as offering new levels of interaction with the public.

According to Frontier, the game will include: “20 death-defying rides so outrageous, they inspire the same word from every park visitor who sees them: WHOA. Players build these incredible WHOA Coasters to leap from one track to another, launch through the air like cannonballs, blast through burning rings of fire and more.

“A new lighthearted story ties together more than 100 missions, complete with 34 playable multiplayer theme-park games and improved social interaction with park guests.”

Thrillville: Off the Rails will be published by LucasArts and released this October on 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, DS and PC.

Nintendo to License iPhone Games.

From looprumors.com:

Nintendo has begun working with Apple on licensing games exclusively for the iPhone, according to NoHeat.

These games will reportedly be released a few months after the iPhone’s launch and sell for $29.00 through the iTunes store.

According to the report, Nintendo’s biggest concern in the affair is the fact that the iPhone utilizes a touch-screen user interface rather than buttons, a method Nintendo is much more accustomed to.

This venture would be Nintendo’s first in the mobile phone industry as it sees this growing market as a threat.

Steve Jobs said yesterday that the iPhone will feature up to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback, or 24 hours of audio playback.
