Now that December has arrived and NBC’s contract has expired, all of their content has been removed from the iTunes Store, as promised. That means no more Bravo, mun2, NBC, NBC News, CNBC, NBC Sports, Sci Fi, Sleuth, Telemundo or USA Network (Go ahead and look. We’ll wait). It looks like the two companies were unable to patch things up, not surprising considering their ugly, public fighting. Good luck to NBC with hulu and that wonderful NBC Direct service, which sounds great. It requires Internet Explorer, the NBC Direct Player (Windows only) and the latest .Net framework. Videos are available for only 7 days after they initially air, and disappear from your computer 48 hours after you begin watching them (unless you remember to renew your license before then). Also, videos will only play on the computer used for the initial download. Mac users cannot use the service, though NBC says a Mac version is “…planned for 2008.” Finally, downloads cannot be transferred to portable devices.
Sad to see NBC go from iTunes since there was tons of shows I liked from there. I guess you can’t win them all.

From smh.com.au:
Universal Studios and its partners will build a 2.9 trillion won (A$3.5 billion) theme park in South Korea by 2012, its largest project in terms of investment size, as it seeks to expand in Asia’s burgeoning entertainment market.
The theme park, spanning 4.7 million square metres (50.59 million sq ft) and featuring hotels, golf courses and rides based on popular movies and TV shows, would be similar in scale to the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida in the United States.
“This is certainly going to be much larger than the other projects that have been announced,” Frank Stanek, who spearheaded the development of Tokyo Disneyland and is in charge of developing Universal Studios Korea, told a news conference. Read the rest of this entry »

From koreatimes.co.kr:

A Universal Studio theme park in Korea will be distinctive in that it will include attractions featuring Korean films, said the head of the famous theme park operator.
Thomas L. Williams, chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts, expressed his hope to set up a Universal Studio theme park in Korea in an interview held during the 2007 Asia Pacific Tourism Investment Conference, Thursday.
He took part in the three-day event hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization in southern Seoul and delivered a keynote speech.
The U.S. company announced earlier this year that it plans to open a Universal Studio theme park here by 2012.
Regarding the distinctive characteristics of the park compared to the already established one in Osaka, Japan, which is very close to Korea, Williams cited the Korean film industry.
“The solution for how to make the Universal Studio Korea distinctive, unique and special is found very easily, which is to take advantage of the wonderful collection of Korean film products, to incorporate Korean culture and products along with products the Universal Studio has made for worldwide distribution,” Williams said.

From orlandosentinel.com:

The once-popular Grinchmas show might be returning to Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure after a one year hiatus: Universal has filed paperwork with Orange County declaring commencement of a construction project to build a Grinchmas stage at the theme park soon.
This morning Universal officials were not available to comment on the construction permit. The annual holiday-themed Grinchmas show, once clearly popular at the park, was canned last Christmas season after a seven year run.
The show featured the mean, green character who stole Christmas from Who-ville, from Dr. Seuss’ 1957 book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

From hitwise.com:
Hitwise today announced that during the peak month for Internet traffic to travel websites, US internet users were searching for theme parks close to home. The natural seasonal peak in visits to Travel websites occurs each July and Hitwise Search Intelligence data reveals that during the busy summer travel season, all but one of the top 10 most searched for travel destinations was a theme park.

All of the top ten destinations were domestic and “las vegas” was the only top 10 destination search term that was not a theme park. Read the rest of this entry »
