2006 theme park attendance data released

From themeparkinsider.com:

As expected, Disney laid the smack down in 2006, posting strong attendance gains while Six Flags and Universal parks largely declined or remained flat.

Here are the world’s top 10, for 2006:
Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, 16.64 million, up 3 percent
Disneyland, Anaheim 14.73 million, up 1.2 percent
Tokyo Disneyland, 12.90 million
Tokyo DisneySea, 12.10 million
Disneyland Paris, 10.60 million
Epcot, 10.46 million, up 5.5 percent
Disney-MGM Studios, 9.10 million, up 5 percent
Disney’s Animal Kingdom, 8.91 million, up 8.6 percent
Universal Studios Japan, 8.50 million
Everland, South Korea, 7.50 million

And the top 10 U.S. theme parks, by attendance:
Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, 16.64 million, up 3.0 percent
Disneyland, Anaheim, 14.73 million, up 1.2 percent
Epcot, 10.46 million, up 5.5 percent
Disney-MGM Studios, 9.10 million, up 5.0 percent
Disney’s Animal Kingdom, 8.91 million, up 8.6 percent
Universal Studios Florida, 6.00 million, up 1.2 percent
Disney’s California Adventure, 5.95 million, up 2.1 percent
SeaWorld Orlando, 5.74 million, up 2.5 percent
Universal’s Islands of Adventure, 5.30 million, down 4.8 percent
Universal Studios Hollywood, 4.70 million, flat

I’m surprised that SeaWorld and Universal Studios had more visitors than Islands of Adventure. I always thought Islands seemed more crowded than Studios.

Universal Update: new sign, stores, Blue Man walkway

I went to Universal last night to ride the Back To The Future ride one last time before it closes next week. While there, I took some pictures of some new things I saw. (At least, they were new to me.)

New Sign
This new sign at Universal Studios shows you the wait times and directions on the right and information and ads on the left.

TV Center
This TV and Movie Preview Center is in the middle of the park. I’ve never noticed it before. I assume it’s where guests can preview new NBC shows and give their opinions.

Blue Man
The walkway to the Blue Man Group show appears to be finished, as does the outside paint job of the old Nick building.

Tattoo Parlor
There are some new stores as you make your way up the stairs in Citywalk. This one isn’t open yet. It’s a real tattoo parlor called Hart & Huntington.

TCBY
I think this one’s been there a while but it’s the first time I noticed it. Across the way from the tattoo parlor is TCBY (The Country’s Best Yogurt).

Cigar store
This one’s at the top of the stairs. It’s a new cigar store. My picture came out a bit blurry so I don’t know the name of it. Notice the large cigar sticking out.

Back to the Future officially closing March 30

img_bttf_top.jpg

It’s offical. The Universal Web site says the Back to the Future ride is closing next week. Still no word on any replacement. Rumors have speculated something based on The Simpsons, The Fast and the Furious, or Harry Potter. My vote is for The Simpsons.

New videos uploaded – ET, Nemo, Crush, Space

Turtle Talk With Crush

I’ve uploaded a few ride-through videos in the past couple of days. I’ve uploaded E.T. Adventure from Universal, and Mission Space, Turtle Talk, and the Nemo ride from Epcot.

Turtle Talk has been moved to their new location, to your left after you exit the Nemo ride. It looks much better than where it was and it’s right out in the middle of the room now. Jellyfish, stingrays and other marine life are on display as you wait to enter the talk with Crush.

Ellen coming back to Orlando

ellen_pagepic.jpg
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is returning to tape three episodes in March at Universal CityWalk. The shows will be recorded on March 30 and 31. You can follow the link to request tickets.

If you aren’t able to get tickets, you can still join in the fun! Everyone is invited to the “Riff Raff” Street Party where you can watch the show taping LIVE on CityWalk’s big Astrovision screen. Plus you’ll be able to watch the show’s musical performances live on the CityWalk Plaza Stage!

I’d love to attend. Last time she was here I didn’t live here, and this time I’m going to be in Detroit attending Wrestlemania. Sorry Ellen, I think you’re funny, but you can’t compare to Wrestlemania.
