What You Get With VIP Status At Theme Parks

From wsj.com:

To see if spending extra money really makes you feel like royalty, we booked VIP tours at four prominent theme parks without revealing our affiliation with The Wall Street Journal. We noted everything from the guide’s attitude to the number of attractions covered. We also tested the guide’s knowledge of the park and threw in an kingly request or two. If we were going to be VIPs for a day, we wanted to feel, well, important.
At times, we certainly did: Nothing brings out your inner spoiled child quite like breezing past a long line of tired park-goers waiting to ride an attraction. But at other times, we didn’t appreciate the nasty looks (or threats of physical harm) that our jump-the-queue status engendered.

A very interesting article that lists what you get for your money on different theme parks VIP tours.

The Simpsons at Universal: Don’t get too excited just yet!

From themeparkinsider.com:

News I received from an attendee at the “Behind Closed Doors” at the Orlando Tourist Board Meeting, held at the Orange County Convention Center, on Tuesday, April 24th.:

Aparrently, Universal Studios have admitted that the New Simpsons Ride will be a very cheap re-fit of the Back to the Future Ride, incorporating existing fittings, especially the cars.

The overhaul and relaunch of the ride is to be as cheap as possible due to NBC’s Minimal Spend approach.

This would be similar to the Jimmy Neutron Ride, which replaced Hanna Barbera a few years back!

What a surprise.  I can’t wait to see what a Delorean looks like painted pink and banged up to resemble Homer Simpson’s car.

The Simpsons ride coming to Orlando

29287365.jpg

From orlandosentinel.com:

Don’t have a cow, man: The world’s most popular dysfunctional cartoon family is coming to Universal Studios.

A new ride based on The Simpsons is planned for Universal Studios both in Orlando and Hollywood. Universal Studios officials and The Simpsons producers Matt Groening and James L. Brooks are expected to announce a new partnership and theme-park ride today during a tourism convention in Anaheim, Calif.

The ride would go into Universal’s recently closed Back to the Future: The Ride buildings in both parks, making it an instant signature attraction in each. It would open in the spring of 2008.

Awesome! I can’t wait to ride it. Much better news than a Fast & Furious Ride.
