Build-A-SpongeBob at Universal

library-7552.jpg

It may not be a classic like Mr. Potato Head or as cool as building your own lightsaber. But it’s still fun to build a SpongeBob.

A few of these Create Your Own SpongeBob stations appeared at different stores in Universal a couple of months ago.

You get a SpongeBob body and 18 parts for $16.95.

Harry Potter Interactive?

Greg writes:

Screamscape reports that Universal is going with an interactive Wizarding experience built by Creative Kingdoms. Check out this video promo of their existing MagiQuest arenas. Think Laser tag with magic wands and a story.

Sounds like a good time, even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan.

Fearsome slashers coming to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights — OrlandoSentinel.com

From orlandosentinel.com:

The fearsome threesome of New Line Cinema slasher films — Jason, Freddy Krueger and Leatherface — are bringing their knives, claws and chainsaws to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights this fall.

Universal Orlando announced today that it has reached a deal with New Line Cinema to use the three iconic horror-movie characters in its annual nighttime scare-fest event, which runs weekends around Halloween.

Its the first time New Line Cinema has given any theme park the rights to use the characters from the popular Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and Texas Chainsaw Massacre series of movies. Universal Studios-Hollywood also will use the three characters in its Halloween event.

I’m VERY excited about this.  Recent Halloween Horror Nights have been a bit… recycled.  This year’s sounds like it’s going to be new, fresh, and fun.  I’ll definitely be there to see Freddy in person.

Local wizards get ready to build Harry Potter’s world

From orlandosentinel.com:

Buddy Thayer, director of business development at the Orlando office of KHS&S Contractors, said his company also signed a confidentiality agreement with Universal.

“How big is it going to be? Nobody knows,” said Thayer, whose company is credited with working on Expedition Everest, a ride that opened last year at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, as well as Tower of Terror at Disney-MGM Studios.

Secrecy is standard practice in the early stages of major entertainment blueprints, a strategy that serves to protect the plans from competition and to build suspense about the details of a project.

The Simpsons collage of 400 episodes

picture-1.JPEG

From thesimpsons.com:

The Simpsons 400th episode is this Sunday. Wow! It’s hard to believe they’ve been on since I was in high school (I’m 37). It seems they’re now more popular than ever – 400th episode, a new movie and the ride coming to Universal Studios next year.

Check out their Web site. There are a lot of new features, the coolest is the collage on the front page of every episode. You can click on any of the small thumbnails and get an episode synopsis or download wallpaper from a scene from that episode.
