Season 2 of the new American Gladiators is coming in May and tapings begin on Tuesday, April 8th.
This time around, it’s being treated more appropriately as a sporting event, rather than a studio TV show, as AG will be shot at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

I wanted to attend last season’s tapings, and was in the LA area at the time with tickets, but ended up not going due to horror stories about slow, boring tapings with very little action. This time around, tapings will still be 4-5 hours long, but it seems like they’ll be better equipped to ensure audience members enjoy their time.

The smiling wax Miley — aka Hannah Montana — is featured in skinny black jeans, a blue and gold silk top, open-toed shoes and, of course, long flowing hair.
The flock of young fans was not deterred by the fact that she’s faux.
Said Emma Brick: “I’ve seen every episode of hers and she has so much personality. . . . It is almost the spitting image of her. It is so exciting.”

If you’re like me, you grew up watching the Kids in the Hall on TV. Great sketch comedy… a bit on the mature side sometimes, but hilarious nonetheless. Well now, the “kids” are grown up but I would imagine are as funny as ever and are on a United States tour.
They’re coming to Orlando on May 22nd and I just may have to go. Tickets go on sale this Saturday. Anyone else planning on going?

I’ve been using a DVR (digital video recorder… like Tivo) for a couple of years now and love it. The model I have been using is an 8300HD, provided to me by my able company, BrightHouse Networks. While it may have a few quirks, it reliably does everything I want it to do with little difficulty. I can view TV listings, record single shows, set up series recordings, all in both standard definition and HD.
So, when I purchased a second HDTV and moved my old one to the bedroom, I felt like it was time to get a second DVR for the house. What I got, however, was a nightmare. Instead of giving me the 8300HD, a BrightHouse rep handed me the 8300HDC, a newer model. At first, I thought this was a good thing… new version, must be upgraded. No. Definitely not. In fact, it’s a major downgrade.
The new model is slow, unresponsive, randomly freezes, takes over 10 minutes to reboot, and often does not record what I want it to. It also is MISSING features that were previously available… features that are vital to a successful DVR.
One such feature is the complete lack of priority when it comes to setting up series recordings. Both boxes have 2 tuners and can record 2 programs at the same time. If I have it set up to record three different shows that are all on at the same time, the 8300HD would choose which 2 to record based on its priority list, which is set by me. The 8300HDC, however, has no priority list, so it seems to randomly select which 2 of the 3 to record. I have no control over it. So, I’ve had to cancel all conflicting shows to ensure that only the ones I absolutely want are recorded.
Occasionally, I’ll turn on the TV in the bedroom and find that the 8300HDC has completely forgotten how to tune in to channels and thus has not recorded anything since the last time I turned it on. Somehow I feel like that defeats the point of having a DVR.
So.. what’s my point here? First, if you have an 8300HD with BrightHouse, hang onto it. Guard it with your life. You won’t get another one if something happens to it. Second, if anyone out there works for BrightHouse or knows how I can replace my terrible 8300HDC with an 8300HD, please let me know. I’d love to get rid of this terrible piece of technology.
And please, don’t tell me to switch to DirecTV, Tivo, or Dish Network. Trust me, I’m already considering it.

Although the last “all new” episode of NBC’s Las Vegas ended with the words “to be continued,” the storyline won’t be. After receiving word that the network had canceled the series, its creator, Gary Scott Thompson, told TV Guide Online: “We were probably the first victim of the strike. The strike did us in. We had three more episodes to shoot for the season, which we didn’t get done. And the ‘To be continued…’ was actually supposed to be the first part of a two-parter. But that’s as far as we got.” Thompson said that he had warned his writers, “If there’s a strike, it’s going to be shows like ours that get hurt the most.” (He was presumably referring to shows with mediocre ratings.) He said that after the strike ended, he had hoped that he would at least have been allowed “to wrap it up and make it satisfying for all the fans, and, in some ways, give ourselves an incredible curtain call with all the major characters.”
I watched this show religiously since its first episode and while it has definitely had its ups and downs in quality, I’m upset to hear that we won’t be seeing more of it. A grand finale show would be nice.
Now the question is what will NBC do with their elaborate Montecito casino floor set that they seem to use in every other show they own (Heroes, Knight Rider, etc)

This years Academy Awards broadcast was seen in about 21.1 million U.S. homes, the fewest in 39 years, Walt Disney Co.s ABC television network said.
Nielsen Media Research projections show that the 80th Academy Awards ceremony averaged 32 million viewers from 8:30 p.m. to 11:38 p.m. New York time on Feb. 24, ABC said in an e- mailed statement. Final data out today may alter the totals.
Total viewers were the fewest since Nielsen began compiling the data in 1974. The household figure is the lowest since 1969 when “Oliver won best picture. Of this years best-picture nominees, only “Juno took in more than $100 million in U.S. ticket sales, according to researcher Box Office Mojo LLC.

While I didn’t see the whole telecast (I do have other things to do…) I saw quite a bit and I thought Jon Stewart seemed like a nervous college kid giving a class lecture before his frat buddies….and why such a slam on Dennis Hopper? I was less than impressed. While there certainly were some good moments, the telecast swam in bloat with long walks and long, long oscar history segments prior to many awards. (Although I was impressed in how they could always get that darn mike at the right height….do they measure the mouth height of each presenter?)

NBC is launching a set of new programming… er, old programming… called ‘Way Back Wednesdays’ in which they rerun old, popular television shows. No doubt this is an effort to keep interesting (and not reality) programming on their network until the writers return to work.
Their schedule includes The A-Team, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Emergency!, Miami Vice, and Night Gallery.
More importantly, they’re allowing you to watch full episodes on their web site for free, at your convenience.
