365 Adventures in 2011: Day 262 – Halloween Horror Nights is here!

It’s finally here. My favorite event of the year, Halloween Horror Nights, had its preview night tonight and I was “RIP” toured around, seeing all the houses and scare zones! The houses are spectacularly detailed this year, on a grand scale. I look forward to seeing them all again on Friday night for the event’s grand opening. And I must thank Universal Orlando for inviting me to attend tonight’s preview. It’s only the beginning of weeks of ghoulish fun!

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 235 – Halloween is coming

As kids go back to school, there’s only one thing on my mind: Halloween. It’s the time of year when spooky decorations start replacing pencils and notebooks on store shelves and I spend way too much money adding to my collection. Now is also when I eagerly anticipate my favorite theme park event each year: Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. My anticipation has been fueled in recent weeks with increasingly blood-stained cards showing up in the mail, as teasers for what’s to come. I look forward to spending many nights wandering the darkened, fog-filled Universal streets in search of a good scare or two.

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 226 – Tiki Room returns

I was quite excited to hear that the Enchanted Tiki Room had reopened today, a day earlier than announced. It’s been far too long since this classic version of the attraction has existed in Florida. The obnoxious “Under New Management” version with Iago and Zazu long overstayed its welcome. And now that one’s gone, replaced by Tiki Room goodness once again. The songs may be a bit shorter and it may be lacking a fountain, but it’s still good. And I’ll go back frequently.

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 219 – Ripsaw Falls

A few weeks ago, I posted a photo from a day spent at SeaWorld. I had taken a bunch of photos of the big drop on the Journey to Atlantis ride, hoping to grab some funny reactions from riders. Unfortunately, the camera I was using at the time wasn’t fast enough to capture anything but blur. So I recently got a new camera (as a trial) and was able to capture much better ride reactions today at Islands of Adventure’s Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls. Here’s my favorite:

I’ll post more of today’s photo experiment soon.

And no, I have no idea who these people are.

365 Adventures in 2011: Day 211 – A chance meeting with Angelica

If you saw my post about visiting the new Tinker Bell’s Magical Nook meet-and-greet earlier today, you probably thought my photo of the day was going to be me with one of the Disney Fairies. But no – it’s me with a different female character at the Magic Kingdom. Believe it or not, despite the fact that she has been in the park since April, I had seen Angelica from “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” until today. The line to get a photo with her was only 2 people long, so I gladly jumped in for a picture.

We exchanged few words, as she seemed to have more important pirate-y things on her mind. And sure enough, a few minutes later, she led a gang of young pirates on a march through Adventureland. (I’ve included a couple shots of that as a bonus below.)
