365 Adventures in 2011: Day 226 – Give me sight beyond sight
My deluxe Thundercats Sword of Omens finally arrived today! I used to have one from the old animated series years ago when I was a kid and I’m happy to own this awesome new version. The blade extends, side “wings” spring out, Thundercats logo lights up, and the buttons trigger sound effects. Best of all, if you hold down the button on the side of the handle, you hear Lion-O repeating “Thunder… Thunder… Thunder…” until you let go at which point he exclaims, “Thundercats! HOOOOOO!” Yeah, it’s awesome.

I finally received my first batch of toys from the new Thundercats show. The show is GREAT and the toys are pretty decent too. Though when I ordered this group of items, I didn’t realize that the “basic” Sworn of Omens was only 12″ long when fully extended. It’s more like a Dagger of Omens. Fortunately the “deluxe” version will be here soon (and is already in stores). Unfortunately, I haven’t read about any plans for a “deluxe” version of the Claw Shield, which is too small to really do anything with, certainly too small to wear – even for a kid. I don’t quite understand that. But anyone who was a fan of the original Thundercats series will love this new one. Watch it ASAP.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 151 – Not your average hot dog
We had hot dogs for dinner two nights ago. And since we still had all the fixings, we decided to have them again tonight. But I didn’t just want the same ol’ ketchup/mustard/onion dog again. Then I quickly remembered watching celebrity chef Bobby Flay cook up some mouth-watering ideas for better hot dogs on Food Network yesterday. So I whipped together his recipe for caramelized onions (salt, pepper, cinnamon, chili powder, ketchup, water – all things we had) and grilled hot dogs two ways.
One was fairly simple with these cooked onions and deli mustard and the other was a variation on this with the same onions combined with fresh cilantro and Crystal hot sauce. I grilled buns (with a bit of butter) to add some extra char and crunch. Both dogs were tangy, a bit sweet, and a bit spicy. Surprisingly, the “Mexican” dog with the hot sauce was less spicy than the deli mustard dog, likely due to more onions (and thus more chili powder) being piled on that one. But I’d gladly make either one again.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 150 – Another Idol adventure
Today I continued my streak of having seen in person every American Idol winner ever. I’m really not a fan of the show, but it’s still fun to have seem them all at Disney’s American Idol Experience attraction. The first 7 were all together at the attraction’s grand opening. Then Kris Allen in 2009 and Lee DeWyze in 2010. Now I saw the new winner, Scotty McCreery, sing this morning. Video and photos here, for those interested.

It seems that MAD Magazine’s Alfred E Neuman won American Idol. His name is Scotty McCreery. I know nothing of his music, but if he won, he must be at least somewhat popular. Apparently he and the other 4 contestants that make up the top 5 will be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios some time on Sunday. And I’ll likely end up going to see them, despite the fact that I didn’t watch any episodes of the show this season. Hopefully they’ll sing at the park, unlike when last year’s winner Lee DeWyze answered a few questions on stage… then left.
The photo here is of my Alfred E Neuman action figure and the USB drive I was given at the American Idol Experience opening a couple years ago.
