THURSDAY THEME PARK: American Idol Experience Performances by David Cook and Carrie Underwood

Yes, it’s another Thursday Theme Park post on a Friday, but I have a good excuse. I spent nearly 12 hours at the American Idol Experience media event yesterday and definitely didn’t have it in me to post something worthwhile when I got home. I’ll have MUCH more on this event in the coming days, but for now I bring you the three musical performances of the night.
During the American Idol Experience finale show, previous American Idol winners David Cook and Carrie Underwood performed separately and together. Ryan Seacrest was also on hand to host parts of the show.
Now, I’m not a fan of David Cook or Carrie Underwood but they both sounded excellent. The sound system in the newly-renovated theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios sounded better than 99% of concerts that I’ve attended (and I’ve been to a LOT of concerts over the years).
The videos below were shot in high-definition, though the HD versions are not quite available yet. However, the audio in these videos is binaural, so put on your headphones and enjoy! They look and sound GREAT.

TweetMany TV Stations Won’t Delay Switch To Digital
From imdb.com:
More than a third of all U.S. television stations will not delay the transition from analog to digital and plan to begin digital broadcasts on February 17 or earlier, the FCC said Tuesday. While Congress pushed back the mandatory cut-off date to June 12, stations were permitted to file notices with the FCC if they desired to switch early. The FCC indicated that while most of the requests for waivers will be honored, it could bar some stations from switching early “in the event that the commission determines that analog termination on February 17 by a station or group of stations is contrary to the public interest.”
I’m happy to hear that stations claim that they’ll follow through with their plans. I look forward to seeing what Verizon and AT&T have planned for the analog spectrum once it’s released.

TweetNickelodeon Starts Production on New Kids Game Show “Brain Surge”
UPDATE #3:You can audition for Brain Surge beginning on January 18, 2010. Find out how here.
UPDATE #2:I have disabled comments on this post because it appears that no one is understanding that I have no connection to the show and cannot help you with the audition process.
UPDATE: This web site is not affiliated with Nickelodeon nor do we have anything to do with casting for Brain Surge. You can find information on auditions for future seasons of BrainSurge by clicking here.
Here’s some slightly old news that I’m just picking up on. It’s fantastic news for anyone who grew up watching Nickelodeon’s many original game shows like Double Dare, Get the Picture, and Legends of the Hidden Temple.
From buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com:
Nickelodeon, the kids cable network, is beginning production of a new game show called BrainSurge. It’s their first all-new game show in a long time, isn’t it? I guess the success of My Family’s Got GUTS made them think of doing more cheap, popular programming. Not a ton is known about the show right now beyond that it begins taping in February in Hollywood, and only kids between the ages 8 and 14 are allowed in the audience. Parents and other non-young people will be put in a special room to watch the show.
They’ve been casting the show for a bit and finally realized a little bit of information. It’s a game of memory and concentration, which almost sounds a bit like the old 90s kids game show Get the Picture. Contestants from the ages 11 to 14 have a chance to win up to $3,000 in prizes if they make it on, which is pretty good for people that age. Losers get sent down the “Brain Drain” to get slimed.
I saw a taping of My Family’s Got GUTS at Universal Orlando a few months ago and really enjoyed it. While GUTS was never one of my favorite Nickelodeon game shows, it was still a fun trip down memory lane. I hope BrainSurge offers the same kind of excitement.
Tapings are currently scheduled for February 16 and 17 in Hollywood CA. Visit On Camera Audiences for more information on how to attend and be sure to comment here if you do!
UPDATE:Brain Surge premieres on Nickelodeon on Sept. 28, 2009 at 4:30 p.m.
UPDATE #2:Non-winning contestants on BrainSurge receive a Bucket of Slime as a parting gift. You can buy your own Bucket of Slime here:
