365 Adventures in 2011: Day 364 – Tron Meon
Disney really missed a merchandise opportunity with this one. For Christmas, “Santa” got me a Meon picture maker, which is similar to a Light Brite but instead of illuminated pegs, this has glowing colored wires that can be bent and shaped over a picture. And while Disney has licensed their Cars and Princess franchises for Meon kits, they didn’t come out with a Tron one, which seems like an obvious choice for this new toy, and certainly the first thing I thought of when discovering it.
So despite the fact that my kit came with Star Wars backgrounds, I was determined to make it a Tron Meon. I found online a perfect light cycle promotional image for Tron: Legacy, printed it to the correct size, cut it out, and spent a couple hours outlining the red/orange and blue areas with Meon wire. The result is a purely awesome light-up Tron display that I will surely change out for more Tron pictures in the future. But for a while, I’ll enjoy this one.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 351 – Ear in Review
After spending the afternoon at a local flea market searching for collectibles and other goodies (which we found a few of), I sat in my office chair for nearly 5 hours straight. Okay, I do that every day when working, but this time I was also recording a podcast continuously for that same amount of time. It was our annual “Ear” in Review show, in which I discuss the year’s Disney news with Paul Barrie from A Window to the Magic. The show went very well and those listening live seemed to enjoy it. It’ll be released on January 1. And I was happy that it didn’t last quite as long as last year’s show, breaking the trend of it becoming longer year after year. Maybe next year we can trim it down to 3 hours. (Yeah, right.)
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 183 – A little Halloween on International Drive
While out exploring today, I spotted a Halloween store on the north/east end of International Drive, just before the Festival Bay Mall. It’s in a shopping plaza and I just barely saw the orange and black sign while driving past. So I quickly did a U-turn and headed in for a little taste of Halloween in July!
The store is mostly filled with costumes, masks, and accessories, though it does have some decorations in the back. I didn’t buy anything today, though I was tempted to pick up a neat Freddy Krueger tombstone they had. Unfortunately it was $100, which was way more than I wanted to pay. I found it online tonight for $70.
I’ll have to return soon. It’s one of very few places in Orlando where I can enjoy Halloween before the Spirit stores start popping up in September. Apparently this store has been around for a year! I wish I’d known sooner.
TweetPosts returning soon.
