A Review Van Halen 2007

kansascity.com82-092807_vanhalenss_03slideshow_mainprod_affiliate57.jpg693-092807_vanhalenss_12slideshow_mainprod_affiliate57.jpgOpening night of Van Halen’s long-awaited reunion with David Lee Roth literally kicked off with several of Roth’s highflying kicks at Charlotte Bobcats Arena on Thursday, although Eddie Van Halen was the first to appear on stage with one of his own signature hurky-style jumps.

The last time Van Halen performed in Charlotte with Roth as its frontman, he had just turned 30, gas was $1.21 a gallon and tickets to the show at the old Charlotte Coliseum were $12.50.

Twenty-three years later, the band’s original members are all over 50 and guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s 16-year-old son Wolfgang has replaced original bassist Michael Anthony.

The show sold out in a matter of minutes in August, and the arena was packed when the band hit the stage around 8:30 p.m., following a short but sweet set of pop and reggae-tinged R&B by Kymani Marley. Read the rest of this entry »

Heavy metal group growls at Disney on their website

From machinehead1.com:

In a stunning last-minute move, Walt Disney Properties have pressured promoter Live Nation into canceling Machine Heads performance tomorrow night at the House of Blues venue in Anaheim on their Disneyland property. Citing violent imagery, undesirable fans and inflammatory lyrics as the reason, the diversity-impaired corporation began pressuring the promoter on Saturday to cancel all upcoming heavy metal concerts, placing Machine Head under an internal “review process” that took 5 days before bothering to convey their alarming decision to the band late yesterday - less than 48 hours before their Black Tyranny Tour was to kick off at House of Blues Anaheim on Friday night. Former Van Halen Bassist speaks out

281×211.jpg

mtv.com

In the days since Van Halen’s August 13 announcement that a long-awaited reunion tour with founding frontman David Lee Roth was, indeed, on, the band’s trusty fans haven’t heard from the one man who could make a true VH reunion complete: original bassist Michael Anthony.

Instead, fans would eventually learn, Anthony has been replaced by guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s 16-year-old son Wolfgang. Anthony hasn’t granted any media interviews, and the band’s followers have wondered why he’s been excluded from what is already turning out to be a sellout, 25-date North American run, which kicks off in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 27. But on Tuesday, Anthony broke his silence in a pithy blog titled “Thanks for the support,” which was posted on the musician’s website. Read the rest of this entry »

Trouble in Mansonland

From yahoo.com:

captd393baee4e134fbda4604a90e109f95bpeople__manson_ny118.jpg

LOS ANGELES - Marilyn Manson’s former keyboardist has sued the shock rocker, claiming he kept millions of dollars meant to be shared and bought items including a handbag owned by Hitler’s girlfriend and a skeleton in a wheelchair.

Stephen Bier — whose stage name was Madonna Wayne Gacy — says he, Manson and other band members signed a partnership agreement in 1993 to share profits.

The suit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims Manson and others deceived Bier into thinking the band wasn’t making much money.

Bier says he began to think differently several years ago when Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, went on a spending binge. He claims Manson owes him at least $20 million in shared profits.

From 2004 to 2006, the suit claims, Manson used band money to buy a $2 million home, collect Nazi paraphernalia and to give his fiancee at the time a handbag once owned by Eva Braun.

Manson also bought “African masks made of human skin, the full skeleton of a 4-year-old Chinese girl, and the full skeleton of a 17th-century male in a wheelchair,” the suit claims.

Well, it’s no wonder the band is mad at him, buying all that kind of cool stuff. I mean who wouldn’t want things like that in their home? - Dr. Disney
