Two “untooned” images from pixeloo recently made the rounds around the Internet: Homer Simpson and Mario. Now, they’re at it again with Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
From blogspot.com:
So this ended up taking quite a bit longer than the last 2 even though I had expected a pretty easy time with it. I was able to complete the face relatively quickly but the real challenge was everything from her neck down. Trying to piece together parts of a body from multiple photos on top of a highly disproportionate body was pretty difficult. I considered only doing the face but I predicted pitchforks and torches if I chose that route. Creating the sequins took a bit of time too. I recently saw some camera effects in a music video I tried to duplicate too with the streaked brightness which I gave a shot here to add to the whole realism.

In perfect timing for Earth Day tomorrow, The Walt Disney Company has announced a brand-new series of nature documentaries under a new name, Disneynature. They’ve also created a Disneynature logo that’s a wonderful blend of the traditional castle-themed Disney logo with a natural mountainous terrain:

From go.com:
The Walt Disney Studios is launching Disneynature, a prestigious new production banner that will literally go to the ends of the earth to produce major big screen nature documentaries, Studios Chairman Dick Cook announced.
In the great tradition established by Walt Disney himself, Disneynature will offer spectacular entertainment about the world in which we live. The significance of the new banner goes beyond the studio, with The Walt Disney Company embracing this new initiative around the world through a number of its businesses, including publications, licensing, parks and educational outreach. Disney veteran Jean-Francois Camilleri, who has served as senior vice president and general manager for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures France will head the new unit. Disneynature will be based in France, where Camilleri and his team will oversee the initiation, development and acquisition of high quality feature projects.
Among the first films to be released domestically under the new label will be Earth, from award-winning British producer/director Alastair Fothergill, whose credits include the landmark Planet Earth series for the BBC and The Discovery Channel and The Blue Planet. Earth, which is produced by BBC Worldwide and Greenlight Media and co-directed by Mark Linfield, will take us on a tour of our home planet as we’ve never seen it before. It will be narrated by renowned actor James Earl Jones and will premiere theatrically on Earth Day, April 22, 2009. The film will also be released under the Disneynature banner in Latin America.
To go with the information about the upcoming documentaries, Disney has created a fabulous web site that really gives you that “big screen” feeling on your small screen at home. Not only does the site contain a clips and information from the upcoming new documentaries, but also a look back at the history of Walt Disney’s “True Life Adventures” series of nature films, including a brief interview with Walt himself. The site is definitely one to check out.

We attended a Back to the Future screening / panel discussion at Celebration on Saturday, April 19 in which actor Christopher Lloyd and writer/producer Bob Gale revealed some interesting tidbits about The Simpsons Ride and the upcoming Blu-Ray release of Back to the Future.
From attractionsmagazine.com:
During the Q&A session, Christopher Lloyd revealed that he had, in fact, voiced his BTTF character, Doc Brown, for The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios. He stated that the crazy, wild-eyed doc would be making a brief cameo appearance, as a Simpsons character, near the beginning of the new attraction.
Bob Gale also mentioned that they are seriously considering adding the Back to the Future: The Ride flim to the Blu-Ray release of the movie, which does not yet have a release date.

From cartoonbrew.com:

The end of an era.
The last of the Nine Old Men, Ollie Johnston, passed away today in Sequim, Washington at the age of 95. Jenny Lerew confirms it.
UPDATE: Howard Green sent us this quote from Roy Disney…
“Ollie was part of an amazing generation of artists, one of the real pioneers of our art, one of the major participants in the blossoming of animation into the art form we know today. One of Ollie’s strongest beliefs was that his characters should think first, then act…and they all did. He brought warmth and wit and sly humor and a wonderful gentleness to every character he animated. He brought all those same qualities to his life, and to all of our lives who knew him. We will miss him greatly, but we were all enormously enriched by him.”
Such awful news just a few days after The Walt Disney Company’s announcement of their plans for their next 10 major animated motion pictures, which may bring Disney back to the animation glory they once enjoyed while Ollie Johnston and the other eight “old men” worked so diligently and creatively on what have become classics.

From go.com:
Commenting on the announcement, Cook said, “We couldn’t be more proud and excited about our upcoming line-up of feature projects. With so many great films literally on the drawing boards and computer screens, we felt that now was the perfect time to give moviegoers all over the world an update on the state of our art. In a year when our Studio is marking the 80th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, the character that started it all for us, it seems especially timely to share our plans for the future of animation. With John Lasseter and Ed Catmull guiding our creative efforts both at Emeryville and in Burbank, this is as exciting a time as any in our history.”
Lasseter added, “This is an amazing time for animation at Disney and Pixar, and it’s a thrill to be working on such a diverse and original group of films with such an all-star team of filmmakers. The thing I love best about my job is that I get to work at both Disney and Pixar with filmmakers who are passionate about their projects and who are the absolute best in the business. We’re excited to be pushing the boundaries of 3-D and computer technology to tell our stories in the best possible way. At the same time, we’re drawing on our past to emphasize memorable characters, original edge-of-your-seat stories, and believable worlds. Walt Disney and his creative team taught us how to blend comedy, powerful emotion, and action-filled excitement in our films, and this group of incredible filmmakers is bringing their own originality and sensibilities to the process.”

From telegraph.co.uk:
An enchanted wedding dress - the perfect outfit for the perfect day.
Inspired the film Enchanted, Disney has launched its very own full-length ivory wedding gown. Cartoon characters are not included.
The strapless lace-embellished dress is supposed to capture the personality of the film’s heronie Giselle - described as natural, sweet, romantic, curious, smart and adventurous.
The dress was designed by Kirstie Kelly, who has created dresses inspired by Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin for Disney Bridal.
Available in Britain, the gown comes with its own veil, tiara, and jewellry.

From imdb.com:
When it is released on August 19, Disneys Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour will become the first high-definition Blu-ray release that can be viewed in 3-D, Disney announced Thursday. The company said that viewers will be able to watch in either 2-D or 3-D modes, but it offered few specifics. Presumably special glasses will be required, but the company did not indicate whether they will be included in the Blu-ray package. A conventional DVD package is scheduled to be released on Tuesday. Disney also said that the Blu-ray disk will include a documentary, The Ultimate Personal Tour, featuring Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers, but it was not clear whether the documentary and other extras on the disk will also be viewable in 3-D.

From firstshowing.net:
Oh no! Now all of you who claim that Wall-E is a “rip off” of Johnny 5 will get your moment in the spotlight, too! The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films have acquired the rights to remake the 1986 family classic Short Circuit. Even the original creators, S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who created the characters and wrote both of the original movies, are back on board again writing the script for the remake. No director has been hired yet, but the producers do claim that it will at least be similar in its theme, with technological advances accounted for. Johnny 5 is still alive!

From usatoday.com:
The new poster for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the CrystalSkull confirms something alien is afoot.
The first poster for the film due May 22 featured part of the title relic, but there was always something odd about the eye socket. In the follow-up, also by sci-fi/fantasy movie artist Drew Struzan, its clear the skull is not at all human. Add to that the recent trailer, with its shot of a crate labeled “Roswell, New Mexico 1947,” and you dont need to be a professor of archaeology to put the pieces together.
Other clues: Looks as if our hero will face his least-favorite animal and the locals at some Maya ruins. Karen Allen who also was in 1981s original seems to be enjoying herself, though.
Another great poster by legendary movie poster artist, Drew Struzan.
