New color scheme and blog changes.
As a first step in returning to regularly posting here, I have updated the color scheme of the blog (I was never particularly happy with the previous one – though this one may be a bit too blue-heavy).
As a second step in returning to regularly posting here, I have removed the “daily posts” link from the nav bar above. That also means that I’m dumping the idea of themed daily posts. It was fun while it lasted but it was inevitable that I would grow tired of the self-imposed restriction.
Instead, I’m going to make a point of posting something interesting every day when I get up. The topics will likely still be the same as my previous array of daily categories, but they just won’t be limited to the day of the week.
This will be the last official post in the daily categories. In the future, instead of “Wednesday Whine,” I will simply use a new “Whine” category. The same goes for all the others.
I’m sure there will be days when I’m too busy to post anything but I’ll try not to let that happen too often, as there’s almost always something interesting going on in the world that I want to comment about.
In case you’re curious: This blog receives about 12,000 unique visitors a month, so there are definitely plenty of readers out there. It’s down about 9% over the last 30 days so I hope to bring that number back up as I resume posting once again… which will be later today, after I eat lunch.
Until then, comment and let me know if there are any particular topics you enjoy reading my thoughts on.
TweetMONDAY MEDIA: T2 Arcade Game or the Only Good Terminator Video Game

Here’s another post leading up to the release of Terminator Salvation this week.
Despite the fact that the Terminator series of movies seems like a perfect fit to be made into a video game, with deadly machines fighting against humans, almost every game based on the franchise has been awful, with one exception…
T2 Arcade Game or the Only Good Terminator Video Game
The T2 Arcade Game was/is a fantastic shooter. It’s simple to play -- just grab one of the mounted uzi, pump in some quarters, pull the trigger, and you’re instantly blasting away at endoskeletons in the future in an effort to save the human race. The uzi is packed with plenty of vibrating punch that’s sure to leave your hand and wrist hurting after a while. That’s the sign of a great game.
I mean, how can a game not be fun with an awesome promo image like this one?
Unfortunately, the game didn’t translate to home versions very well. It was released in Super Nintendo, Genesis, Game Boy, and PC versions, but none of these were ever as fun as playing in the arcade, though using Nintendo’s Super Scope gun to play did help somewhat.
Here’s a glimpse at the Nintendo version:
But why is this the only good Terminator game ever made? There have been a TON of Terminator games produced over the years for nearly every home console ever invented, but they’ve all suffered from a severe lack of fun. Many were unplayable due to poor graphics, frustrating controls, or a combination of the two. Like this one:
Boring and repetitive. And then there’s Terminator chess:

While it’s true that many movie-based video games are simply awful, as they are usually rushed through development and production to ensure that they’re released at the same time (or before) the movie hits theaters, it still surprises me that so many bad Terminator-based games have been made. So I hope that somehow that the upcoming Terminator Salvation game succeeds where so many of its ancestors have failed.
TweetMONDAY MEDIA: Wii Punch-Out!! Madness – Hilarious Promos, King Hippo Goodies, and a Little Mac Boxing Glove

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! is up there with Super Mario Brothers and The Legend of Zelda in my most-played Nintendo games category. Now, the comedy-filled boxing game is coming to the Nintendo Wii and in style with…
Wii Punch-Out!! Madness
As soon as I heard that Punch-Out!! was coming to the Nintendo Wii, I was excited but worried that one of my favorite classic games would be ruined by too much arm-flailing. Fortunately, Doc Louis is here to explain the simplicity of the controls:
In addition to coach Doc Louis, Little Mac has also returned to go a few more rounds against characters like Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, and King Hippo:
But if just buying Punch-Out!! isn’t enough to satisfy you, Amazon is also selling two exclusive items that are sure to excite any Punch-Out!! fan:

The Heavyweight Contender Kit is a separate purchase from the game, not a bonus item and is packed with irresistible Punch-Out!! collectibles. For $34.99, it includes four items:

- King Hippo Crown Mini Replica
- King Hippo Desktop Punching Bag
- King Hippo Boxer Shorts (Size: Large)
- Doc Louis Remedy Chocolate Bar
You can purchase the Heavyweight Contender Kit here.
Amazon is also selling a collectible Little Mac Boxing Glove for the low price of $89.99:
As fun of a collectible as the boxing glove is, I’m not sure I can shell out that kind of cash for it, but the Heavyweight Contender Kit may be too good to pass up.
Punch-Out!! comes out for the Nintendo Wii on May 18.
TweetMONDAY MEDIA: Full Movies and TV Shows on YouTube

This might be old news to many of you but I just recently discovered the fact that I can relive parts of the ’80s and ’90s through the new existance of…
Full Movies and TV Shows on YouTube
In addition to the usual buttons found near the top of YouTube (Home, Videos, Channels, Community), there is now a “Shows” button that takes you to a listing of full TV shows and movies that are now legally available to watch in their entirety directly on the video sharing site.
In browsing through list of TV shows, the ones that stuck out as interesting to me are:
- Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (the cartoon)
- He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
- Dilbert
- Bewitched
- Alf
- The Tick (Unfortunately, only the live-action version)
While I’m not thrilled with the idea of watching a movie on my computer (regardless of if it’s on YouTube or anywhere else), I think classic TV shows definitely have a big future in the online world. Hulu really began the process by putting so many great shows online and now YouTube is following along.
YouTube has even taken a few pages from Hulu’s playbook including allowing TV and movie watchers on their site to “turn down the lights,” making most of the page turn dark to provide a better video-watching environment. The shows and films can also be displayed in a larger in-browser size than standard YouTube videos (full screen is still available as well).
Unfortunately, unlike most YouTube videos, the TV shows and movies are not embeddable, so I can’t put any of them on this blog or anywhere else. Before each bit of media, a short advertisement is also played, but that’s easily ignored.
Overall, I like the trend of adding classic television to online video sites. I’ve been buying old TV shows on DVD for several years and would be happy to have access to it all on the Web for free, especially if someone can figure out a way to let me watch them on an actual TV.
TweetWEEKEND WEB / MONDAY MEDIA: MC Hammer Asian Style at DanceJam

I’m being slightly lazy at the beginning of this week and combining two daily posts in one. So this week’s Weekend Web and Monday Media post both revolve around the idea of showing off your dancing skills online (or potentially making a complete fool out of yourself)…
MC Hammer Asian Style at DanceJam
DanceJam.com is a site all about dancing. You can upload videos of yourself dancing, learn new dance moves, and even check out a few dance competitions/battles. If you’re into dancing, you’ll love this site. This concludes the Weekend Web portion of this post.
Now onto the best part about DanceJam, which comprises this week’s Monday Media… Asian MC Hammer:
I can’t decide what’s more awesome about that video: the fact that there’s an Asian dude in Hammer pants dancing to “U Can’t Touch This” or the fact that there’s a woman casually sitting behind him knitting, completing ignoring what’s going on in the room. Either way, the video is great.
If only this guy had been there when MC Hammer pulled Universal Studios guests on stage during his recent performance there.
