365 Adventures in 2011: Day 264 – Lady Luck
My second night spent at Halloween Horror Nights for 2011 was for opening night and at the media party, this year’s icon Lady Luck was available for photo ops. And I escaped with my life, barely.
365 Adventures in 2011: Day 262 – Halloween Horror Nights is here!
It’s finally here. My favorite event of the year, Halloween Horror Nights, had its preview night tonight and I was “RIP” toured around, seeing all the houses and scare zones! The houses are spectacularly detailed this year, on a grand scale. I look forward to seeing them all again on Friday night for the event’s grand opening. And I must thank Universal Orlando for inviting me to attend tonight’s preview. It’s only the beginning of weeks of ghoulish fun!
365 Adventures in 2011: Day 258 – Evil Entity
I opened and assembled one of my newest Halloween decorations, an “Evil Entity” from Halloween Express. Standing more than 5 feet tall and draped in creepy cloth, he floats up and down and side to side, while his face and chest glow blue. He’s also supposed to say scary phrases in a raspy voice, but it seems the sound function on this one is broken. And then after a few minutes of running him, the motor died as well. So I’ll be calling Halloween Express on Monday for a replacement. This is why I do my Halloween shopping well in advance! Once I get a working Evil Entity, he’ll be an excellent addition to my annual graveyard scene.
365 Adventures in 2011: Day 257 – Meeting with the shadow man
If there was one thing I was most looking forward to (and hoping for) at this year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, it was the chance to get a photo with Dr. Facilier. Last year, I had heard he was around… but he never showed. And before that, he only had appeared in the Magic Kingdom during the entirely too short run of Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee, when Disney was promoting The Princess and the Frog. And even then, guests couldn’t get close to Facilier, as he was up on the riverboat.
Now, finally, Facilier has a big part in this year’s Halloween Party, appearing on the Villains float in the Boo-To-You parade, having his own song-and-dance routine during the Villains stage show and, best of all, meeting with guests immediately after that show. So tonight, I finally got my photo with the shadow man himself. And he was certainly a character.
365 Adventures in 2011: Day 256 – A little Halloween luck at Universal Orlando
Universal Orlando held a fantastic first-ever tweet-up for Halloween Horror Nights tonight, inviting a crowd to get a sneak peek of the upcoming event along with a first look at some of the scareactor costumes that will be seen. Three of the HHN creators talked all about the haunted houses and scare zones, answering questions as well. Plus 21 lucky attendees got to walk through one of the haunted houses (The Forsaken) and another 21 won RIP tours on employee preview night this coming Wednesday… and I was one of them! I’ve been to a handful of tweet-ups over the years Twitter has been around and this was by far the best. Halloween + behind-the-scenes + prizes = awesome. Universal did well with tonight’s gathering and I hope to see more like it in the future.
Oh and the photo is me in front of Lady Luck’s wheel, which was lit up and on display at the tweet-up. Lady Luck didn’t show up, but she’ll certainly be at Halloween Horror Nights next week.
