365 Adventures in 2011: Day 258 – Evil Entity
I opened and assembled one of my newest Halloween decorations, an “Evil Entity” from Halloween Express. Standing more than 5 feet tall and draped in creepy cloth, he floats up and down and side to side, while his face and chest glow blue. He’s also supposed to say scary phrases in a raspy voice, but it seems the sound function on this one is broken. And then after a few minutes of running him, the motor died as well. So I’ll be calling Halloween Express on Monday for a replacement. This is why I do my Halloween shopping well in advance! Once I get a working Evil Entity, he’ll be an excellent addition to my annual graveyard scene.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 255 – Kmart disappoints
Last year I had great luck finding some excellent new Halloween decorations and props at Kmart, so this year I was looking forward to exploring their “Totally Ghoul” selection. But tonight, I found nothing but a disappointing array of repeats from last year and other cheap stuff no one would want to buy. I hope this particular Kmart simply didn’t get all the good stuff in, but I doubt that’s the case. I’ll end up visiting another soon anyway.

Just when I was starting to think I wouldn’t be buying too much new for Halloween this year, Target finally puts out some good new stuff and I come across some great finds at Halloween Express. A couple hundred dollars later, I’ve got all kinds of new goodies for my annual Halloween night fun! But I’m not done shopping yet, as I haven’t been to Halloween City yet and I’ll need to make a couple more visits to Spirit too. Plus, I saw a great floating ghost skeleton thing at Halloween Express that I want, but they only had the floor model, so I’ll probably end up getting it online. Now to come up with a theme to tie it all together… (I’m thinking zombies! They are quite popular lately.) Fortunately I still have around 5 weeks to come up with a plan.
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 250 – Tragic Toys
While browsing around Barnes and Noble tonight, some bizarre-looking toys caught my attention. At first glance, I thought they were Tim Burton knock-offs, with darkened eyes, misshapen heads, muted colors, and plenty of black and white stripes. But when I got closer, I realized they weren’t knock-offs at all, but rather a line called Tim Burton’s Tragic Toys for Girls and Boys. According to the box, the characters are based off of a Tim Burton book called “The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories.” I’d never heard of it, or the toys, but now I’m intrigued. It seems the book and the toys have been around for quite a while, but this was the first I had ever seen or heard of them. It seems I’m not as much of a fan of all things Tim Burton as I am of his movies…
Tweet365 Adventures in 2011: Day 245 – Giant squishy Stay Puft
I finally started opening and displaying all the toys and collectibles I picked up at the San Diego Comic-Con in July along with a few other recent purchases. After around and hour and a half, I’m about 2/3 done. The biggest item we brought home was the new squishy Stay Puft Marshamallow Man from Mattel that stands 20″ tall and comes with a huge Ghostbusters diorama. It’s so big that the only place I have to display it (right now) is on the floor. I’m sure I’ll find a better spot for it eventually. Tomorrow I’ll finish opening the rest of the stuff, making our upstairs bonus room mostly organized once more.
