Disney 20Q - Help train it!

Mattel is searching for the help of Disney fans for a new product called 20Q Disney. It’s a device that will guess what Disney character, place, or other item you’re thinking of in 20 questions.

They’re currently working on training the device online and want you to play the game many times to help it get smarter:

So far, it hasn’t figured out any of my Haunted Mansion-related thoughts but I imagine it will over time.

Here’s an image of what the device will look like:

It is due for release next spring.

Similar devices have been released with Star Trek, Harry Potter, and The Simpsons themes.

Mort Walker has drawn “Beetle Bailey,” a comic strip chronicling the lighter side of Army life, for 58 years.

During most of that time, the artist has been waging a war of his own — to preserve cartoons.

Over the years, comics have become hot. They’re the subject of movies, TV shows and Pulitzer Prize-winning literature such as “Maus” by Art Spiegelman. But when nobody took comic books seriously, Walker saw them as art.

In his quest, Walker, 84 years old, has amassed more than 200,000 pieces — including comic books, news clippings, drawings, film footage and posters.

Walker, who published his first cartoon at age 11, contributed thousands of pieces from his own collection. He got contributions from comic-book heavyweights such as “Spider-Man” creator Stan Lee and the late cartoonist Rube Goldberg. The trove contains Mickey and Minnie Mouse drawings by Walt Disney and hand-drawn panels of “Peanuts” by Charles Schulz. It is one of the largest collections of original cartoon art in the world. New Book on the 1964 World’s Fair

From queenstribune.com:

Information Executive Bill Cotter grew up in New York City and spent the summer of 1964 at the World’s Fair. Forced to entertain himself on a limited budget, he went on the rides that didn’t cost extra. He explored the pavilions, where conversations with an international crowd would be free of charge.

“I remember walking by the Egyptian pavilion – it had air conditioning so I figured I might as well go in,” Cotter said. “So I’m in there, talking to the woman who was there. She reached up and pulled a piece of cotton off the wall. I still have that piece of cotton stuffed in a box.”

Cotter, one of more than 51 million people to visit the fair in 1964 and 1965, is not alone in his continued enthusiasm for the event. He attends shows where fair devotees trade collectables. He met Bill Young, a Wisconsin-based computer systems analyst, at such a show and together they collaborated on a World’s Fair book. That was four years ago. Their second book on the subject, “The 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair: Creation and Legacy,” hits bookstores next week. Read the rest of this entry »

“Knight Rider” Global Positioning System from Mio Technology

From nytimes.com:

It was bound to happen sooner or later: Generation X nostalgia and modern technology have come together in the “Knight Rider” Global Positioning System from Mio Technology.

The Knight Rider GPS (www.knightridergps.com) takes both its sound and style from the 1980s television show about a computerized talking 1982 Pontiac Firebird named KITT. William Daniels, the actor who was the voice of the sleek black car, narrates the unit’s driving directions. The device, which sports a black exterior and flashing red lights, can be personalized to use one of 300 common names in the greetings and random phrases it utters.

Although it does not offer real-time traffic updates, the Knight Rider GPS comes loaded with maps of the United States and is ready to go out of the box. It weighs about six ounces, and has a 4.3-inch color screen. It will cost an estimated $270 and is expected to arrive in stores in August — the month before a retooled version of the “Knight Rider” TV show crashes back onto the airwaves with Val Kilmer cast as the new voice of KITT.

I’ve never wanted a GPS more than now. Anyone know where I can buy a vintage black Trans Am to go with it?

More on Hitlers Disney doodles…

From ananova.com:

1257267.jpg

Is this drawing of Dopey by Adolph Hitler?

(As we said previously) William Hakvaag, the director of a war museum in northern Norway, said he found the drawings hidden in a painting signed “A. Hitler” that he bought at an auction in Germany.

The initials on the sketches, and the signature on the painting, matched other copies of Hitlers handwriting, he claimed.

“Hitler had a copy of Snow White,” he said. “He thought this was one of the best movies ever made.”

Hitler tried to make a living as an artist before his rise to power. Nineteen watercolours and two sketches said to be by Hitler were sold in Britain two years ago for a total of £118,000.
