A welcome banning of the words “epic” “fail” and “viral”

Lake Superior State University annually releases a list of overused words that should be banned from all future use. I couldn’t agree more with this year’s top choices.

epic.
fail.
viral.

Yeah. THOSE.

Not everything amazing is epic. Not everything that goes wrong is a “fail.” Even if something is a failure, it’s likely not truly “epic.”

And how about just “popular” instead of “viral”?

Enough. Good list. (Can we get rid of “chillax” too?)

  1. David M. says:

Nobody says “chillax” any more, so I’d say no worries there.

I honestly don’t mind “viral” that much, because it’s used in a specific context… the only real problem with throwing that one around is the hyperbolic implications of using it (the main reason why I agree on not using “epic” and “fail” as much, even if I’m personally guilty of saying “FAIL!” relatively often)
