Paul - You're right, I didn't follow up. I definitely meant to but never got around to it. I'm sure you've notice that the blog has become rather quiet (again) over the last couple months. I'm sure I'll resurrect it (again) soon.

But the short version is: If it wasn't for ITM, I probably wouldn't have kept the iPhone. Yes, it's useful for pulling up quick directions or price matching in stores, but I don't think I use $30/month worth of internet access on it. If I wasn't sending pictures from the parks and tweeting for ITM, I'd rather have a pay-as-you-go plan for data... then I'd probably only end up paying around $2-3 per month.

I haven't bought any apps (free ones are just fine) and don't play games on it. I also have only used it as an iPod once, when I was in California.

Ricky, I am thinking of an Iphone for Christmas. You never followed up your 30 day trial review, but I beleive you mentioned recently in your podcast that you have an Iphone, so I assume you are enjoying it and feel that this was a good investment.

Great review ricky! i really enjoyed it.

anyway, on keeping the phone instead of the iPod touch, i think that you will find that one dollar a day (30 a month) is well worth it for being able to use mobile data transfer and emails and the like. i have an iPod touch, but i rarely ever use the internet feature anywhere except my own home, which sort of defeats the purpose of having one in the first place. i say, keep the phone. its great to be able to take pictures and post them to the internet/twitter easily. speaking of which, you really otherwise wouldnt use twitter on your phone.

just my 2 cents.

Tip: in Settings you can select what function you get when you double-tap the home button. Sounds like Phone Favorites would be the option that would benefit you the most.

Things that make the iPhone great that you haven't mentioned:

- Syncing OTA with Google Calendar
- WDW Apps: Wait Times, Dining, Operating Hours
- Watching videos (legally ripped from my TiVo and converted to iPod format)
- Having the capacity to have thousands of you pictures in the palm of your hand

And iphone.tomtom.com is on the horizon...with handsfree voice and FM auido streaming to your car stereo...but what will it cost?

Otherwise, I think you've made a fair evaluation. But I think you don't realize how hard it will be to go back to a dumb phone after having a smart one. And the iPhone is the best smart one. I'm forced to have a Blackberry at work ....there's no comparison....the iPhone does so much more, so easily.

To Jamie: I hope you are on the train/bus when watching video podcsats on your commute!

To Ricky: I agree about the app organizing. I wish iTunes had a way of organizing them on the computer and then the ordering would sync with the phone.

As for the iPod functionality: I find myself using it more than I thought I would, and I have a 120Gb iPod Classic. I still use the classic for longer trips, but I keep a nice selection of song on my iPhone as well. It's just one less thing to carry around with me when going back and forth to work or school.

Random question - these blog posts are now appearing in a condensed format via Google Reader (RSS). Any idea of what's changed?

Agree with most of your comments Ricky. However for me, I was going to get an iPod Touch anyway so made sense to get the iPhone to save carrying numerous devices around. Best audio features on any phone I've tried so far, and the integration between music player and taking calls is excellent.

Also, I use email functionality hooked up to GMail, which negates need for a separate spam filter in the phone itself.

Oh should mention - posted on my iPhone in UK. Works out great for watching ITM video podcasts on my daily commute - thanks Ricky!

Glad to see you are doing well with the trial period! The inner me hopes you end up keeping it but the phone has to satisfy your needs so I will keep my fingers crossed! We wish we could re arrange the apps on iTunes with small versions of our screens... then we could drag and drop them in place instead of using our finger and spending a lot more time moving them around.

And I have to agree with Brian H. above... AutoStitch is wonderful! I take photos of my the areas I work on at work and then use it to make one final photo of the area... it really lets me see the entire room/area in one photo. It was worth the $1.99 for me to have this app. Not sure what you would need for your work but I will keep looking for ya! Enjoy! (and yes, it rocks that we have 5 bars all the time at home!)

It costs $1.99, but AutoStitch is well worth it. It automatically creates panorama shots from overlapping photos taken with your iPhone. It all happens all automatically on the iPhone after you select which pictures to use. It is amazing. Here are a few examples: http://tinyurl.com/ncvz85.

I enjoyed your 2 week review, I agree with 90% of it... I too wish I could arrange my apps. a little easier! Photoswap is awesome! Pandora music app is great if you have wifi. Have you tried audioboo? Makes great 3 minute audio "tweets" that you can post along with a picture!
