From go.com:
VMK will cease to operate and close its virtual gates on May 21st, 2008 at 10PM PST.
VMK was created and launched as part of a promotion to celebrate Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary. In part due to VMK’s success, the game/promotion was extended, however the time has come to end the promotion.

VMK was created as part of Year of a Million Dreams. The site was safe and very entertains for children. The site provided a place where the dream of being at Disneyland could come true Closing this site will end those dreams of many children.Shame on all the people involved on closing VMK.This site should be kept opened for the children.Disneys closing it will close alot of dreams that children had when at the site.If Walt Disney knew how this is going to make children feel when it closes, even he would be very disappointed.
I honestly had no idea people still even cared about VMK. It was a really lacking experience for me.
There’s still ToonTown to go play in!
