We are on Twitter.

I have signed up for a pair of Twitter accounts for myself and for Inside the Magic.

I haven’t entirely figured out what I’m supposed to do with them, but I suppose that will come over time. For now, I’ll be posting things there that won’t be anywhere else… day-to-day, hour-to-hour, and minute-to-minute type things.

Let me know if there’s anything cool I’m missing about Twitter.

Miley Cyrus gets a wax figure at Madame Tussauds

From canoe.ca:

Madame Tussauds New York unveiled a wax figure of the wildly popular teen actress-singer on Thursday amid such likenesses as Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Wright, Rachael Ray and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The smiling wax Miley — aka Hannah Montana — is featured in skinny black jeans, a blue and gold silk top, open-toed shoes and, of course, long flowing hair.

The flock of young fans was not deterred by the fact that she’s faux.

Said Emma Brick: “I’ve seen every episode of hers and she has so much personality. . . . It is almost the spitting image of her. It is so exciting.”

Phoenix Wright Music - Original, Orchestral, and Jazz

From hyrule.net:

You all know I love the Phoenix Wright series and its soundtrack. Well, here are the original soundtracks for all four games, plus the jazz and orchestrated albums!

Take note that the tracklists for the four game soundtracks are not complete. I just pulled out what I thought were the standouts from each game. But the standards such as the court and character themes are all present. All tracks were uploaded by me.

I don’t think these tracks are available anywhere in the United States and if you’ve played the Phoenix Wright series of Nintendo DS games as much as I have, you’ve already got all of the tunes permanently embedded in your head… so now you can listen to them in full orchestration and/or with a jazz ensemble!

If you haven’t checked out any of the Phoenix Wright games, you need to. They’re essentially point-and-click adventure games wrapped around a world of characters in a courtroom setting. You play as Phoenix Wright, a young attorney at the beginning of his career, trying to make sense of everything around him. You gather evidence, talk to a variety of zany witnesses, suspects, and colleagues, all in trying to get a ‘Not Guilty’ verdict for your client.

Kids In the Hall on Tour!

If you’re like me, you grew up watching the Kids in the Hall on TV. Great sketch comedy… a bit on the mature side sometimes, but hilarious nonetheless. Well now, the “kids” are grown up but I would imagine are as funny as ever and are on a United States tour.

They’re coming to Orlando on May 22nd and I just may have to go. Tickets go on sale this Saturday. Anyone else planning on going?

Boston Dynamics Big Dog (new video March 2008)

I can’t believe how well this thing not only walks on its own but also recovers from being pushed over and slipping on ice. It can seemingly navigate even the most complicated terrain. I’d love to see something like this walking around theme parks! It’s only a matter of time…

Technology downgrade? BrightHouse 8300HDC

I’ve been using a DVR (digital video recorder… like Tivo) for a couple of years now and love it. The model I have been using is an 8300HD, provided to me by my able company, BrightHouse Networks. While it may have a few quirks, it reliably does everything I want it to do with little difficulty. I can view TV listings, record single shows, set up series recordings, all in both standard definition and HD.

So, when I purchased a second HDTV and moved my old one to the bedroom, I felt like it was time to get a second DVR for the house. What I got, however, was a nightmare. Instead of giving me the 8300HD, a BrightHouse rep handed me the 8300HDC, a newer model. At first, I thought this was a good thing… new version, must be upgraded. No. Definitely not. In fact, it’s a major downgrade.

The new model is slow, unresponsive, randomly freezes, takes over 10 minutes to reboot, and often does not record what I want it to. It also is MISSING features that were previously available… features that are vital to a successful DVR.

One such feature is the complete lack of priority when it comes to setting up series recordings. Both boxes have 2 tuners and can record 2 programs at the same time. If I have it set up to record three different shows that are all on at the same time, the 8300HD would choose which 2 to record based on its priority list, which is set by me. The 8300HDC, however, has no priority list, so it seems to randomly select which 2 of the 3 to record. I have no control over it. So, I’ve had to cancel all conflicting shows to ensure that only the ones I absolutely want are recorded.

Occasionally, I’ll turn on the TV in the bedroom and find that the 8300HDC has completely forgotten how to tune in to channels and thus has not recorded anything since the last time I turned it on. Somehow I feel like that defeats the point of having a DVR.

So.. what’s my point here? First, if you have an 8300HD with BrightHouse, hang onto it. Guard it with your life. You won’t get another one if something happens to it. Second, if anyone out there works for BrightHouse or knows how I can replace my terrible 8300HDC with an 8300HD, please let me know. I’d love to get rid of this terrible piece of technology.

And please, don’t tell me to switch to DirecTV, Tivo, or Dish Network. Trust me, I’m already considering it.

Review - Nickelodeon Universe at MOA

This Saturday will mark the grand opening of the first Nickelodeon themed park in the world — Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America, in Minnesota. Originally Camp Snoopy, the indoor theme park, housed in the center of the MOA complex, featured rides surrounded by trees and rockwork. Supposedly the park officials had trouble coming to an agreement with Charles Schultz’s relatives to continue the Peanuts theme in the park — I can imagine though, that what the park was really after was filling their stores with Dora the Explorer and Sponge Bob merchandise. (The Schultz family need to allow Snoopy a computer animated cartoon series — I think he has a lot of mileage left, but kids just do not know who he is anymore)

A lot of the park has been retooled and repainted, adding some brand new rides. Additions include the $2.5 million dollar Sponge Bob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge — a corkscrew rollercoaster that takes riders straight up to the girders, some 6 stories overhead and straight back down on a 97 degree fall.

The picture on the right shows a ramp like structure, which has since been completed as the signage with SpongeBob and Patrick riding in a coaster car going straight down. The coaster does look impressive. A small (compared to outdoor parks) drop tower ride has also been added in the park area that used to have an interactive fountain. A new, massive skateboard ride, where riders sit in two rotating rings of seats on top of the realistic looking board, climbs ramps to the ceiling, bringing a great kinetic motion to the park. Some additions seem less well thought out…the kid’s speedway cars, have been repainted and a Swiper the Fox statue added by the attractions side, renaming it “Swiper’s Sweepers”. Strange name — and isn’t it Tico that is always driving around on Dora’s show? Maybe Tico’s Taxis would have made more sense.

Overall, the park seems to have more space, with a lot of the rockwork removed and more simple walls painted with the Nickelodeon orange splat. Large graphics adorn the central support columns with Dora, Diego and other Nick characters. The park does have more color but it has lost much of the spectacular outdoor feeling that Camp Snoopy used to have (especially at night). Things feel much more plastic and some things feel almost temporary. Maybe that is the problem theming a park to cartoon characters that come and go in popularity. There is also a strange mix right now since some parts of the park have not been changed yet — they probably will be in the future. For example, the log cabin type buildings near the ferris wheel still remain untouched.

Overall, the park will offer some new excitement and it is great to see an influx of money used for painting and general upkeep. I think the park will continue to be successful — the MOA has more visitors yearly than Disneyland.

On Saturday, the grand opening will occur, with Ashlee Simpson giving a concert and many Nick actors on hand.

New ‘Indiana Jones’ Theatrical Poster

From usatoday.com:

The new poster for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the CrystalSkull confirms something alien is afoot.

The first poster for the film due May 22 featured part of the title relic, but there was always something odd about the eye socket. In the follow-up, also by sci-fi/fantasy movie artist Drew Struzan, its clear the skull is not at all human. Add to that the recent trailer, with its shot of a crate labeled “Roswell, New Mexico 1947,” and you dont need to be a professor of archaeology to put the pieces together.

Other clues: Looks as if our hero will face his least-favorite animal and the locals at some Maya ruins. Karen Allen who also was in 1981s original seems to be enjoying herself, though.

Another great poster by legendary movie poster artist, Drew Struzan.
