Cheryl Cruz said she was shaken by an encounter on Tuesday while she was breastfeeding her 10-month-old child, Kalli, on a bench at the Universal Studios park in Orlando.
“I’m just feeding her, minding my own business, there’s hardly anyone at the resort, [and] suddenly this lady comes over to me and says, ‘Listen I want you to cover up, this is a family affair,’ ” Cruz said Thursday.
“I was so shocked. I looked at her [and thought], ‘Oh my goodness, you’ve got to be kidding.’ ”
Then, Cruz said, a group of security officers surrounded her. She was eventually permitted to stay in the park.
She described the experience as mean and humiliating and said there is no law against public breastfeeding in Florida.

Tom Schroeder, a spokesman for the theme park, said Universal Studios has a policy that allows breastfeeding anywhere in its theme parks. He said the company has apologized to Cruz and that she can expect more.
“We’re going to have the specific team members involved in this incident apologize to her, and we’re going to make sure that our team members know how to proceed in these kinds of situations, moving forward,” Schroeder said.
Schroeder said Universal has talked to employees about the issue before.
He would not say whether Cruz will be compensated.

I wonder how Universal went about asking her. I totally agree with Universal in asking her to cover up, because it really is inappropriate to breast feed in a theme park.

I agree. The only mistake here is that Universal apologized. I mean, if I wanted to run around with my shirt off, they’d certainly ask me to cover up (if the police weren’t called). If you must breastfeed your child, please do it discreetly. Anything else is just gross.

Are you totally serious?!!! When a woman breastfeeds her child she is feeding a her child, a baby. Now if the “child” was 20 something okay that’s gross. I have a problem with people eating with the mouth open I think it’s gross. Now will Universal ask them to keep their mouth shut while chewing or have the security swarm and escort them out. Just wondering.

Womens breasts were made to do ONE thing. BREASTFEED. I feel as though I am reading comments from people who are dumb when it comes to breastfeeding, and actually think its perverted to do this in public. its kind of funny… and sad that there are people who actually think this, much less admit it such as the people who made the previous comments. Cheers to you for your honesty, but maybe you need to be schooled on breastfeeding / and what is right and wrong. I wish you luck !!
