Wireless gains propel AT&T as international sales boost Apple

From bizjournals.com:

Telecommunications company AT&T on Tuesday reported third-quarter profits of $3.1 billion on revenue of $30.1 billion. That’s up from the third quarter of 2006, when AT&T posted a $2.2 billion profit on $15.6 billion in revenue.

AT&T acquired Bell South Corp. in December 2006 and recently finalized its merger with Cingular Wireless. The telecommunications company has retail, sales and some back-office operations in Arizona.

AT&T credited wireless growth for the gains. The company has a distribution deal with Apple Inc. to sell its hugely popular iPhone.

Apple on Monday reported a quarterly profit of $542 million on $6.2 billion in revenue, compared with year-earlier numbers of $542 million in profit on $4.8 billion in revenue.

Apple has retail locations in the Phoenix area. Apple CEO Steve Jobs credits stronger computer and international sales for the gains.
