From oregonlive.com:
Walt Disney forever transformed kids entertainment when he opened his world of make-believe called Disneyland in 1955. Now, heirs to Uncle Walts company are once again changing the way kids are entertained, this time through the World Wide Web.
After some miserable early failures — few remember Disney-backed sites Go.com or Toysmart.com — the Walt Disney Co. is again making the Internet a centerpiece of its future.
In recent months, Disney transformed its main Web site from a dated mishmash of information into a new kind of multimedia network, with constantly updated “channels” featuring TV-like videos, games, feeds from Disney concerts such as the wildly popular “High School Musical” and social networking areas.
Last week, AdWeek Media named Disney.com the fifth-hottest site on the Web, behind Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and TMZ.com. Nielsen/NetRatings, meanwhile, announced the site attracted a record 23 million visitors in August, up 24 percent from a year ago. Read the rest of this entry »

From about.com:

Busch Gardens Africa which is kind of a silly name, since its located in Tampa, Florida has always been as much about gawking at animals as soaring on roller coasters and rides. OK, its known for its lovely gardens and beer as well. Three, and possibly all four, of its attributes will be featured in Jungala, a new themed village debuting in spring 2008. The lushly landscaped rainforest area will allow guests to get up close to tigers, orangutans, and other animals while also providing two exciting rides and a large play structure. And a couple of new restaurants will likely offer Budweiser and other Anheuser-Busch brews.

Jungala Features
Prime viewing areas of Bengal tigers, orangutans, gibbons, and tomistomas a type of crocodile

Rainforest theme will include lots of jungle flora
Rides will include a zip-line experience and a mini-freefall tower.
3-story climbing structure
Childrens water play area
Two restaurants

From orlandosentinel.com:
The Complete Walt Disney World, researched, written, photographed and just published by Julie and Mike Neal of Celebration, may be the most colorful, visually stunning and deeply researched guidebook on the market. I certainly haven’t seen anything that matches.
The book was researched and photographed with a lot of cooperation from Disney, though the Neals insisted they remained independent-minded throughout. And it contains some pictures and observations that required such deep access, that I’m pretty sure some Disney officials are nervous about them showing up in this book. Read the rest of this entry »

Thrill-seekers looking for a new adrenaline rush will be able to satisfy the urge at Canada’s Wonderland north of Toronto next year.
The amusement park says work has started to erect what it calls Canada’s biggest, fastest and tallest roller coaster ride.
“Behemoth” is just over 1,600 metres long with a climb to at least 70.1 metres, an 85 degree drop and speeds of up to 125 kilometres an hour.
The $26 million ride includes high speed twists and turns, double banked loops and eight extreme drops.
“Behemoth” is set to open in May 2008 as the 15th roller coaster at Canada’s Wonderland.

From orlandosentinel.com:
Ralph Kent, who designed the first adult Mickey Mouse watch in the 1960s and went on to be a design leader and instructor for Walt Disney Imagineering at Walt Disney World, has died in Kissimmee at age 68.
Kent spent 41 years as a designer and teacher at the Walt Disney Co., and was named to the companys “Disney Legends” hall of fame in 2004, the year he retired.
Born Ralph Kwiatkowski on Jan. 28, 1939, he joined Disney in 1963 and in 1965 designed the first limited-edition Mickey Mouse watch for adults, which Walt Disney presented to 25 of his top executives.
He arrived at Walt Disney World in 1971 as a designer and by the end of the 1970s he oversaw the Walt Disney Imagineering staff support for Epcot and Tokyo Disneyland. In 1990 he joined the Disney Design Group as a corporate trainer, mentoring new artists and creating an extensive reference collection of character model sheets.
Marty Sklar, executive vice president and Imagineering Ambassador, called Kent “A real pixie — a big guy with a soft manner and always warm smile.”

I’ve posted a video of the newly reopened and improved Haunted Mansion on our videos page:
http://www.attractionsmagazine.com/video.php
It’s got the rope drop rush to the Mansion first thing this morning as well as the entire attraction, including binaural audio that’s sure to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. The Imagineers did an amazing job with the new Ghost Host audio in the stretching rooms and the binaural audio in this video captures it very well
