From michaels.com:

This eerie talking head appears to be floating inside the ball. Activated by sound, the head will move and speak many phrases. 14” globe.
This is actually a pretty neat effect — the gypsy fortune-teller’s head appears to be floating in the large crystal ball — her eyes light up and move and mouth moves with really clear vocal phrases. Certainly not Disney, but for $50.00 its pretty impressive. - Dr. Disney

The Walt Disney World Haunted Mansion update is going on right now, with a little less than a month until it reopens. This week, 4 pins came out at Mickey’s of Glendale at WDI depicting concept art for each of the new scenes:

New Staircase Scene

New portrait hallway, complete with lightning windows

New extra-scary bride

New floating Madame Leota
It’s interesting to note that the portrait hallway features the April-December portrait which was recently replaced in Disneyland’s hallway by the Master Gracey portrait from WDW’s foyer.
It looks like WDW’s Haunted Mansion is going to be the best version around soon!

From ocregister.com:

Mickey Mouse handed over the keys to his kingdom to the cast of “High School Musical” on Tuesday, and if the adoring fans of the Disney Channel juggernaut had their way, well, Mickey might never get them back.’
On a witheringly hot day at Disneyland, the sequel that debuts Friday, “High School Musical 2,” was celebrated with a parade down Main Street, a new street show at California Adventure, a news conference that drew media from around the world and a blue-carpet premiere at the AMC Theatres in Downtown Disney.
You’re probably tired just hearing all that. Imagine if you were one of the thousands of fans who descended on the Magic Kingdom in search of a little “High School Musical” magic of their own.
“With the heat, oh, my gosh, we’re dying,” said Katey Gama, 15, of La Mirada, who hosted a slumber party for eight friends, stayed up until 3 a.m., then got up in time to leave the house at 6 a.m. to stake out a spot on the carpet to see the stars.
“Hopefully, it’s worth it – seeing our boyfriend, Zac,” Katey said of the hunky teen idol Zac Efron.

Are mermaids an endangered species?
Almost four years after Weeki Wachee Springs teetered on the verge of insolvency and wound up in court, the 60-year-old, famously kitschy Florida attraction that boasts performing mermaids heads this week toward what could be a final legal showdown over its future.
“Were fighting for our lives,” said Robyn Anderson, former mermaid and mayor of Weeki Wachee, the town of nine people that owns the attraction located about 50 miles north of Tampa — and seemingly a million miles from the states more corporate tourist destinations, such as Disney World.
