The New Mickey Mouse Club was my favorite job ever! Imagine being a twelve-year-old and getting to film in Disneyland before the park opens, throwing pies in your friend’s faces and getting paid for it, and riding on giant mouse ears down Main Street at Disney World.
I hope the pictures in my photo gallery bring back good memories for you, or if you’re too young, I hope you have fun making some new mouske-friends.
Quite a few interesting pictures from her appearances on the show and in the park - Dr. Disney

From netcot.com:

Over the weekend, Greenpeace activists sneaked into Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and changed several incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. They also setup a banner stating “Mickey harms the global climate” to protest Hong Kong Disneyland’s energy management. Greenpeace says that the two lobby chandeliers have over 200 incandescent light bulbs which create more heat than light.
“Disneyland actually dims its own fairy tale by using energy inefficient bulbs and is costing our environment,” Frances Young said of Greenpeace said.
Disney wouldn’t confirm the statement but has indicated that it started installing energy-saving lights in guest rooms in 2006 and has made other changes to save power.

Miss South Carolina in tonight’s Teen USA pageant had to answer the following question as part of the competition: “Recent polls have shown that a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?”
Here is her answer: ” I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and I believe education such as in South Africa and Iraq, everywhere such as, and I believe that they should, our education over here, in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future.”
She didn’t win. What a shock.

From washingtonpost.com:

David Hasselhoff accepted libel damages Friday from the publisher of magazines that accused him of being drunk and abusive in a Hollywood nightclub.
Northern and Shell PLC, the publisher of the British edition of OK magazine and Northern and Shell North America Ltd., the publisher of the U.S. edition of OK Weekly, “accept that their allegations were false,” Hasselhoffs lawyer, Simon Smith, said in court.
The amount of damages in the out-of-court settlement was not disclosed.
Smith said the July 3 U.K. edition of OK accused the 55-year-old former star of TVs “Baywatch” and “Knight Rider” of being “off his face” and abusive in a club shortly after winning a custody battle for his daughters.

In the days since Van Halen’s August 13 announcement that a long-awaited reunion tour with founding frontman David Lee Roth was, indeed, on, the band’s trusty fans haven’t heard from the one man who could make a true VH reunion complete: original bassist Michael Anthony.
Instead, fans would eventually learn, Anthony has been replaced by guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s 16-year-old son Wolfgang. Anthony hasn’t granted any media interviews, and the band’s followers have wondered why he’s been excluded from what is already turning out to be a sellout, 25-date North American run, which kicks off in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 27. But on Tuesday, Anthony broke his silence in a pithy blog titled “Thanks for the support,” which was posted on the musician’s website. Read the rest of this entry »

I just received this email from longtime Inside the Magic listener, Chris Morgan:
I was at the Magic Kingdom on Wednesday, and I walked past the Mansion, I saw the gates were open, so naturally I sped up towards it to get a peek inside. But I noticed that some guests were going in! I wondered whether it was a soft opening, but I thought it was a bit early yet really. So I walked up and there was a cast member outside giving out small cards with numbers on saying that the Imagineers wanted to test out some new sound! I instantly got a ticket and went in (of course). Behind those gates looks pretty much as you’d imagine, as you can see it from the Riverboat anyway. Then, some Imagineers I recognised walked out looking a tad excited, I think I recognised them from interviews for the Pirates additions. They told us that they wanted to show us the new Ghost Host sound effect and ask some questions. And that it’d take about half an hour of our time. Fine, of course, for everyone! We walked in through the exit, and turned left, through a corridor. I noticed it had ’servant bells’ like in old stately homes, a wonderful touch I felt! We kept going through until we reached the room just before the stretchroom (I forget the proper name for the moment) and waited. Then the stretchroom doors opened, and we entered. There were no effects, just the new Ghost host.
Man, you guys will love this effect! It’s amazing! When they said it feels like he’s flying around your head, they weren’t joking! It’s really creepy! There’s a sort of ‘ethereal mist’ sound (I like to call it that) that makes him sound more like a ghost. There’s this very deep bass sound coming out of the walls, and so much more. It’s amazing!
What the Imagineers wanted to know is if some of the smaller kids felt like the Ghost host was flying around their heads. Alas, they didn’t feel that. The Imagineers sighed at this and had a look like ‘well, here we go again…’ I take it that was the whole point of the test really! But it’s a fantastic effect!
Looks like I need to head to the Magic Kingdom and hover around the Mansion, hoping to get asked to come in!

From buddytv.com:

Curb Your Enthusiasm actor Jeff Garlin has joined the cast of Pixars latest venture, WALL-E. The upcoming CGI animated feature film, set in the future, follows the story of the last robot on Earth, whose main task is to clean up the litter caused by rampant consumerism. In the process, he falls in love with Eve, a robot from a probe sent to Earth to monitor WALL-Es progress.
Also part of the cast is Fred Willard Everybody Loves Raymond, Mad About You. Willard will play the CEO of the BuyNLarge Corporation, an incompetent company that supplies the clean-up robots. His role will be the first non-animated character to appear in a Pixar film.
WALL-E is not the first film that features both Garlin, who plays Jeff Greene in Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Willard. Both actors appeared in the 1999 comedy, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, which starred comedian Mike Myers

From perio.org:

Several theories exist to explain the link between periodontal disease and heart disease. One theory is that oral bacteria can affect the heart when they enter the blood stream, attaching to fatty plaques in the coronary arteries heart blood vessels and contributing to clot formation. Coronary artery disease is characterized by a thickening of the walls of the coronary arteries due to the buildup of fatty proteins. Blood clots can obstruct normal blood flow, restricting the amount of nutrients and oxygen required for the heart to function properly. This may lead to heart attacks.
Another possibility is that the inflammation caused by periodontal disease increases plaque build up, which may contribute to swelling of the arteries.
Researchers have found that people with periodontal disease are almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease as those without periodontal disease.

From variety.com:
NBC is getting into the ring with “American Gladiators,” which has been revived by the Peacock for midseason.
The competition skein — which featured players with names like Nitro, Turbo and Laser in its campy, early 90s syndie incarnation — will be updated for the 21st century with new technology and twists. MGM TV, which was behind the original hit, is producing along with Reveille.
Peacocks interest in the revival actually predates the arrival of NBC Entertainment/Universal Media Studios co-chairman Ben Silverman, who began developing the project while still in charge of Reveille. Net confirmed last month that “Gladiator” was a priority at the net Daily Variety, July 16.
“Weve been circling around this property for a long time now,” said Craig Plestis, exec VP of alternative programming, development and specials at NBC Entertainment. “Its truly whats not in the TV landscape right now. While everyones zigging, Im attracted to doing a zag.”
Net wouldnt confirm the episodic order, but at least six segs are believed to be in the works. NBC could opt to launch the show as a one-week strip — similar to how it bowed “Deal or No Deal” — or as a weekly skein.
This is the best news I’ve heard all month. I’m thoroughly enjoying American Gladiators reruns on ESPN Classic and look forward to some new Gladiator action on NBC soon. We can only hope that Nitro, Gemini, and Zap make a return… even if only as commentators. Maybe we’ll even see a taping or two here in Orlando again! ;)
