Considering that some retail locales in America are still having trouble keeping a fresh supply of Wii consoles in stock (whilst the PlayStation 3 units tend collect thin layers of dust), it’s no surprise to see such dramatic sales figures surface. Sure enough, Enterbrain’s latest report demonstrates that Nintendo’s darling moved into 270,974 new households in June, while only 41,628 PS3s were sold in the same timeframe; just to compare, the even older Xbox 360 was able to sell 17,616 units. That brings the overall sales figures to date for Nintendo to nearly 2.76 million, while Sony has yet to break the magical one million in units sold. But don’t count Sony out just yet — it’s coming back, remember?
I knew this would happen. No one can afford a PS3. But Nintendo is really making it hard, because there are huge demands for the Wii and they are no where to be found. I still can’t find one.

I think this is terrible news. The Wii just isn’t a next generation gaming console and for something like that to be outselling the PS3 and the 360, I think it’s bad news for the video game market. For a system that basically looks like the PS2 with motion, I fear that the console companies might not keep pressing the graphical limits. If people think the Wii looks “good enough” graphically” then I fear for the future.

The wii is a great system to just play games with family and friends.

Graphics schmraphics! It’s all about great, innovative gameplay and the Wii has that in spades. I’d rather play a classic NES game than most of the derivative 1st/3rd person shooter nonsense on the PS3 and 360. Besides, the Wii is hardly a slouch in the graphics department (check out the new baseball title “The Bigs”). It doesn’t do high-def but it’s 480p mode looks pretty sharp on my DLP projector.
Nintendo does need to make more consoles though. If they can’t it’s only going to frustrate consumers and make them buy a different system. If Wii’s aren’t in steady supply by the end of the summer Nintendo could be in big trouble.
