Minnesota’s twisted new wooden roller coaster
From startribune.com:
TweetTraveling up to 52 miles per hour, riders will be ducking their heads when they climb up and soar down, around and under the tracks of Renegade, the new wooden roller coaster that the public gets its first crack at today as Valleyfair opens for the season.
Among the highlights of the newest ride at the amusement park, which draws about 1 million visitors to Shakopee each year:
• The first drop comes with a twist.
• Built at a cost of $7 million, its the second wooden roller coaster in the Shakopee amusement park. High Roller, the first, was there when Valleyfair opened in 1976.
• The coaster has 19 turns in 3,113 feet of track.
Sneak peek
The train lurches up 104 feet and pauses, the Shakopee water tower to the left and suburban homes standing as miniatures to the right.
The sudden 91-foot drop corkscrews through a maze of wood that camouflages each of the Renegades thrilling turns.
The coaster leans riders deceptively close to the railings, twisting from side to side as large wooden beams rush by overhead, close enough to kiss.
For wind-in-the-teeth action, pick the first cart and stare down the tracks as the wheels smack rat-tat-tat underneath. For some butt-off-the-seat play, cozy up in the last cart where youre guaranteed to get more air time as a sea of hair whips before you.

Looking forward to riding this one! I haven’t been out to Valleyfair! in years but I love wooden coasters and this one looks pretty sweet.
Beast in Kings Island outside of Cincinatti is the only coaster to ever give me chest pains. I was seriously having muscle spasms in my chest after riding that wooden monster of a coaster. After the spasms stopped, I rode it again :-)
