The Simpsons at Universal: Don’t get too excited just yet!

From themeparkinsider.com:

News I received from an attendee at the “Behind Closed Doors” at the Orlando Tourist Board Meeting, held at the Orange County Convention Center, on Tuesday, April 24th.:

Aparrently, Universal Studios have admitted that the New Simpsons Ride will be a very cheap re-fit of the Back to the Future Ride, incorporating existing fittings, especially the cars.

The overhaul and relaunch of the ride is to be as cheap as possible due to NBC’s Minimal Spend approach.

This would be similar to the Jimmy Neutron Ride, which replaced Hanna Barbera a few years back!

What a surprise.  I can’t wait to see what a Delorean looks like painted pink and banged up to resemble Homer Simpson’s car.

Well I’ll be shocked if it’s worse than Jimmy Neutron. Even the Spongebob ride at King’s Island in Cincinatti is better than Jimmy Neutron. I would have much preferred that they re-do Back to the Future such as cleaning up the cars and digitally restoring the movie and up convert it to high def.

Of course, Ryan! And the same can be said for Hanna-Barbera! I’d like to meet the suit who actually thought Nick characters could ever be more popular than Hanna-Barbera…

My 8-year-old son much prefers the NickToons to Scooby Doo and the other Hanna Barbara characters that he doesn’t know too well.

I didn’t really expect Universal to re-do everything in the Simpsons ride. I think just updating everything and having a sharp new movie will be cool.

That’s really a matter of taste, I’d suppose. My 1 year old only knows SpongeBob because that’s the picture on the side of his milk drink. Besides Discovery Kids, I usually have him watching my Disney Treasures, Scooby-Doo Where Are You?, Pup Named Scooby-Doo, Flintstones and the Muppet Show. Maybe when he grows up a little more, he’ll reject these in favor of the new crap, but maybe not. One can only try. :) He does enjoy the classics, though.

I don’t understand why they’re doing a Simpsons ride now. Shouldn’t they have been on top of the Simpsons popularity wave a decade ago? I’m still a fan, but I hear it a lot that Simpsons should have hung up the towl a long time ago.

Well, their movie is coming out soon - that could have something to do with it.
