Calling all Ice Cream Truck Drivers

Ice cream trucks aren’t what they used to be.  I was sitting at home today with my wife and we both heard an ice cream truck in the distance.  My wife has had a craving for a Screwball forever now, since she used to eat them all the time when she was younger.

I looked out the window only to see the truck drive by, fairly quickly, without even giving me enough time to make it out the front door to flag it down.

I threw on my shoes, went outside, and listened while I figured out where it was headed.  It sounded like the truck was circling around back behind my house, so I went through our back yard, through out neighbor’s yard, and onto the street behind our house.  Sure enough, there was the truck.  It was headed right toward me!

I waved it down… or at least, I thought I did.  The truck didn’t even slow down.  The driver just zoomed right past me.  She seemed like she was off in another world, not even looking to see if there was ANYONE waiting to buy some ice cream from her.   I walked into the middle of the street behind the truck and waved my arms in the air.  Still no reaction.  The truck finally stopped at the stop sign at the end of the road, turned left, and drove away.

How is this ice cream truck driver planning on selling anything if she doesn’t even look to see if anyone is waiting by the side of the road?

So… my point here is: if anyone out there knows where my wife can purchase a single Screwball, or a pack of them in the Orlando area, let me know.  I could go for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle popsicle too.  Obviously we can’t depend on the local ice cream truck driver who must think she’s playing Grand Theft Auto.

I’ve often wondered the same thing as I see the truck blaze by my house. I’ve not gone-out and tried to stop it, but even if I wanted to, by the time I hear it and make it to the door, it’s too far away. What are they thinking?

All I can guess is that the driver is paid hourly by somebody who owns the truck, so doesn’t care about the actual sales like if the owner was driving.

I loved running outside to the ice cream truck. Now, none ever come by, it’s terrible.

You can’t get their ice creams anywhere from what I’ve seen. I love the screw balls and Mario ice creams. :)

  3. Jose says:

Ahh, screw balls were a good ice cream. I had one the other day at a near by ice cream store that sells Original ice creams from the 80′s and 90′s. Want me to send a box up to you Ricky?

    Jose

  4. Matt says:

The ice-cream truck comes through our neighborhood about once a week. I never have a problem flagging him down, but there are a lot of kids in my neighborhood.
Next time I hear him, I’ll check for screwballs and turtles.
My son usually gets the SpongeBob.

  5. Ricky says:

I haven’t heard the ice cream truck since. Next time I’ll have to run into the street before the truck gets there and hope that it doesn’t run me over!

  6. Matt says:

The truck usually comes through our neighborhood during the week around 3 p.m., just when the kids are getting out of school.

  7. Matt says:

The ice cream man was just outside my house. They were advertising two different kinds of screwballs, blue raz and cherry, but when I ordered one he said he was out of both. :-(

  9. amy beth says:

First of all, I think all of the ice cream truck drivers around here (Nashville) are on crack. I think it is nothing more than a front for drug laundering. Second, I was successful it getting one to stop recently. Through glazed eyes, he informed me they quit making screwballs about 3 years ago. Obviously he was a screwball because I now know that they are available, I just can’t find them! Good luck to all of you screwballs!!!

    Hello everyone!!
I heard you are all wondering, waiting on an ice cream truck. How to STOP an ice cream truck. Caution: For your safety, Never chase one. I live in Titusville,Florida and obviously not able to be in more than one place at a given time. Serving the Titusville area only. I have been in business since 2003. It’s really not hard to find many ice cream truck drivers. Quite Simple as a matter of fact, most of us are independent business owners with our own hours of operation. Most people have cell phones and computers, it’s 2011! Most ice cream trucks are listed on the internet and all you do is search in your city(Google,Yahoo ,Facebook) for example: ice cream truck in Titusville,Florida and all whom are listed will show up. We operate “on Call” for direct delivery. My customers call me because I give them my card with my phone number. Just like when you call for a pizza delivery. I dont just drive around wasteing gas, it just does not serve the purpose that it’s intended. At the end of the day you’ve found that you have burned more gas than you’ve sold ice cream and TRUST ME, They will NOT be HAPPY! Then, the next time you see them the cost of the ice cream is $3 or more. My prices are low because I dont drive around. I have a 10 to 15 mile radius/distance that is my route. You call, give me your location, I’m there in 30 min if I’m not to far from you. Check out my website at http://www.djliciousicecream.com and search for hundreds of other trucks in your area. I hope that I have been helpful.
Thank you for attending this class on how to stop and icecream truck 101! Simply call them.
    Have a Sweet,Cool Ice Cream Day !

  16. Carla D. says:

I live in Georgia. I used to own a truck! Some trucks dont stop in certain neighbors because criminals think that you carry alot of money. Go figure!! by the time you put gas in the truck you have just enough to make change. And to give out a phone number just to get set up to be robbed or killed for $20 or $30. Everyone that sees an ice cream truck dont have the same ideas. Some have criminal thoughts.
Good Luck in finding a truck!
