Cheerleaders Caught Shoplifting at Disneyland
From whidbeynewstimes.com:
This past weekend the Coupeville High School cheerleaders made their first-ever trip to the national championships held in Anaheim, Calif.
Unfortunately, two members of the squad marred that accomplishment when they were arrested for allegedly shoplifting at Disneyland after the competition took place.
Coupeville School District Superintendent Bill Myhr said police haven’t determined if charges will be filed against the two girls. He would not give the ages or the grade level of the pair.
School officials are conducting their own investigation.
Because the girls were participating in a school-sponsored event, they fall under the school district’s conduct policy. The Coupeville High School principal will conduct the investigation over spring break.
Myhr said the two cheerleaders could be suspended between five and 20 days. In addition, they might have to return to California to answer to any charges that may be filed.
Every year, thousands of cheerleaders representing schools across the country flock to the Disney parks in the US to compete in various competitions and have a good time together. Inevitably, every year many of these cheerleaders cause an enormous headache for other guests who have to endure their constant cheering, running, yelling, and inappropriateness. It comes as no surprise to me that some of them were caught shoplifting at Disneyland. I will always recommend that folks steer clear of the Disney parks while these cheerleading competitions are going on, especially if you want a good night’s sleep at the value hotels.

I hope I’m not the only one who HATES these cheerleaders. They seem to find a way to ruin the day, at least when I’m there.
They’re never quite, and seem to impose the generation X mentality of act like a bunch of morons. Really gets on my nerves.
It’s not all of them. Occasionally you’ll run into a calm few having a good time. The problems happen when you get an entire squad of them together in the stretching gallery in the Haunted Mansion and they all decide to break out into a cheer and then proceed to scream at the top of their lungs throughout the entire ride. Or perhaps it’s when you find them running at full speed through the shops on Main Street not caring who or what they bump into along the way.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t have fun like everyone else… they just shouldn’t have fun at the expense of everyone else.
May not be all of them, but it’s a good 99%. ;)
Yikes. These girls are from the next town north of us. Shameful behavior! Your advise to avoid the cheerleader weekend is a good one.

As the mother of one of these girls I am disgusted by comments made! I am not happy in the least bit about what my Daughter did!!!! And there have been serious concequences levied upon her here at home. But to you sanctemonious so n so’s who feel the need to come down on these girls. I have a message for you!!! You do not know my daughter or what kind of person she is, Kind and loving and polite to everyone she meets or knows, I am quite positive you people have never made a mistake in your entire lives right? Not true for most of you I’m sure! So get off your high horses!! My daughter is very remorseful for what she has done not only to her family but to the Cheer squad and Coach especially! It is incomprehensible to me how the Adults of our community have gossiped and spread viscouse rumors about these two wonderful girls! They made a huge error in judgement no doubt, but to label them as some have done and not forgive them when they are trying to make things right is regretful. You people should be ashamed of yourselves, mind you own business and let these girls move on with there lives, the penalties they are facing at home, at school and with the courts is punishment enough, judging them as some of you have done is wrong and hurtful!! PS Don’t go to Disneyland during cheer events if you don’t like the cheering!!!
I appreciate your stance and will say that I definitely do not have any bad feelings against your daughter personally. I’m sure she understands what she did was wrong and will never do it again. Lesson learned.
However, I wasn’t really commenting on this particular instance but rather cheerleaders in general. Your comment of “Don’t go to Disneyland during cheer events if you don’t like the cheering” is EXACTLY the mentality that is wrong with the cheerleaders when they show up. Do you realize how many different events go on at Disneyland each and every day? One single group should not have the ability to ruin it for everyone else. I shouldn’t have to stay clear of the parks simply because there are cheerleaders present.
The parks are there for everyone to enjoy, 365 days a year. Nothing gives you, your daughter, your daughter’s fellow cheerleaders, or any other cheerleader in the world the right to ruin anyone else’s vacation while you are there. Just because a group of cheerleaders is performing at or near Disneyland, does not mean they have to be cheerleaders 100% of the time they are there. Once they are done performing, they need to be courteous to the other guests in the parks and restrict the cheering, running, and yelling to an appropriate venue, NOT inside stores or on rides.
A single cheerleading event does not take precedence over thousands of families’ vacation time.
How is running and yelling inappropriate in any theme park, who doesn’t yell on rides and even in the stores when your teenagers, cheerleaders or not!! That’s ubsurd, these cheerleaders have every right to yell and act silly as long as its not inapropriate, i.e. cussing, ect. Thousands of families yell and scream on rides and in the stores too! Are you kidding me. My mentality is in no way Dis-respectful to the families trying to enjoy there Disneyland vacation. What about young children, should we come down on the little guys who get so excited there natural reaction is to yell and run? In the stores on the rides and in the little streets. My mentality, its Disneyland for Christ sake not Church! I have been to Disneyland on numerous occasions with my family Grand Parents and all, and have never had the thoughts that you people have, so I guess we will just agree to disagree on what is appropriate behavior at theme parks.
I am in no way saying that screaming on a roller coaster or when frightened on the Haunted Mansion is inappropriate. In fact, it’s fun and encouraged! It’s all part of having a good time. :)
The behavior I’m talking about is running and yelling outside hotel rooms at midnight. I’m talking about breaking into a full-blown 2 minute long cheer on a crowded bus, where the sound does nothing but echo and drive everyone up a wall.
I really have no problem with teenagers having a good time (I was a teenager having a good time at Disney once). It all boils down to whether or not it affects other people’s ability to also have an equally good time.
I think you have alot of nerve speaking of things you obviously know nothing about. It is hard raising any child but a teenager is even more of a challenge. You cannot comment on the lives of people you know anything about. I feel it is imperative that we all remember what it was like to be a teenager. We have ALL have done things that we are not proud of ….how bout you? The important thing is that we remember these things and guide our youth not blast them and insult them. Yes what was done is wrong but it is NOT for you to say….and to say anything more is to just give your “opinion” on facts you have no clue about and not to help anyone. So if you have an opinion, but not a solution please keep your words to yourself….and you know who you are.
I was at the All-Star Resort while the cheerleaders were there this year. Compared to the numerous high school students who were there the previous week while on spring break I found these young people to be very well mannered. I stayed in the “touchdown” building with our room facing the center court where all of the practicing and after event congregations took place. The cheerleaders were very well behaved. The previous week involving the high school spring break participats were totally another story with loud parties going on until 1:30am and only being broken up once security was called.
I saw MANY well-behaved cheerleaders this year. In fact, I didn’t see a bad one at all. However, I also did not see any of them in a group together without supervision, as I have in the past. This year, all the cheerleaders I saw were individually with their parents instead of in large groups. The most I ever saw together was 2 or 3.
This appears to be the key component in this topic. It’s not that cheerleaders are bad people… it’s simply that when you get a bunch of teenage girls together on a vacation and let them loose in the parks without any supervision, bad things tend to happen.
When I was working for Toys R Us I caught a cheerleader IN HER UNIFORM nervously shoving a big 20 dollar stuffed animal in her gym bag, and I followed her and stopped her as she was walking out the door. Now I like cheerleaders, but the one’s from the school this one was from are total bitches and I was hoping this one would be arrested, but the manager just called her parents and told them that if we ever catch her stealing again we would prosecute. But how stupid is it to shoplift in their cheer uniform, don’t they know that that makes it extremely easy to identify them and have them arrested from the surveillance tapes?
