Hitachi develops RFID powder

RFID keeps getting smaller. On February 13, Hitachi unveiled a tiny, new “powder†type RFID chip measuring 0.05 x 0.05 mm  the smallest yet  which they aim to begin marketing in 2 to 3 years.
This is just flat out frightening. RFID scares me. I’m not paranoid but I don’t want to be tracked either, for any reason. It was bad enough knowing that RFID chips were going to be added to our US passports. Now, they can simply be “blown” onto you.

I love the idea of RFID but I know they can be hacked with a simple buffer overrun doing this will allow a simple hacker to clone your RFID which will then allow that hacker to have all of the same things your RFID can do. The US Passports are going to come inside of a special case which has a special copper mesh that will block any signals from getting in or out, but once you open your case your ID could be compromised.
The reason I like it is because I like the idea of a keyless entry my home but until they figure out the problems with the buffer overrun it can never be good. There have been store which are implementing RFID’s for simple and fast checkout, walk through a small area during checkout and it will know exactly what you have and debit your credit card. Hackers have been able to rewrite the RFID and walk out with a shopping cart full of groceries for the price of a pack of gum.
